Tips and Misc
The whole raid takes places in a square arena; there's an entrance room for buffing, and two optional side areas.
- Lockout
- There is no in-quest lockout, but similar to Fire on Thunder Peak, beginning the actual combat locks further entry via the questgiver's portal.
- Souls of the Hunted Mechanic
- During Phase 2 and 3, Souls of the Hunted can spawn.
- They appear as slightly ethereal, untargetable red humanoids, with a countdown above their head.
- During phase 2, up to 4 souls can spawn.
- During phase 3, upwards of 8 souls at once have been seen, including two sets with different count downs.
- To 'disarm' the Soul, have someone stand close to it – this will remove the red beam of light coming down from the heavens, and the soul will glow green.
- For each soul not 'disarmed' when its timer reaches zero, a full raid AOE damage spell will occur, roughly 750 damage per soul on LH. (This is Sonic damage, and is affected by the requisite and resistances.)
- Recognition of 'disarming' can be buggy – if one spawns on top of you, you may have to move out of its AOE and back in. It is also possible too many bodies on a soul will stop it being 'disarmed'.needs verification
- When Souls appear, the entire party should drop DPS on the boss and move to handle them. The damage can easily cause a wipe, especially on Elite or Reaper difficulties.
- Be warned that each time any set of souls is not completely suppressed, the whole party will take a stack of the debuff "Emotional Burden", which increases sonic damage taken by about 50% and stacks and consequently making subsequent missed souls even more damaging. All stacks of the debuff expire after five minutes, so a party which took a long time to complete the second phase and wishes to skip the optionals is advised to let it wear off first before starting phase three.
- Main arena
- Trash mobs will constantly respawn in the corners during the boss fights. They can be disabled via Otto's Sphere of Dancing, or ignored on lower difficulties.
- Take note of the 4 squares in the north, south, west, and east of the room. These are where the Souls are going to start appearing later.
- Phase 1
- Senior Hunter Oka will spawn on the western stone with an Apex Hound. The hound will respawn after a short delay if killed.
- Kill Oka to proceed to the next phase.
- A crosshair (like being targeted by Irk from Project Nemesis raid) will appear on a character at range and result in a time bomb (countdown and then AOE damage around character, low damage to character. Same as time bomb from Killing Time)
- Phase 2
- Senior Hunter Mori will spawn on the eastern stone with an Apex Hound. The hound will respawn after a short delay if killed.
- Periodically, she will announce that the souls of the hunted do not rest in peace and will summon souls of the hunted.
- Mori can also create green circles on the floor that explodes for massive acid damage, and use Carrion Swarm from the Primal Avatar epic destiny that will affect her target and all nearby enemies. If you need to be close to the tank, make sure you receive constant healing. Carrion Swarm deals acid over time damage.
- Kill Mori to proceed to the next phase.
- Mori occasionally spawns four Souls of the Hunted – see above. She only starts doing this a set time after activation, probably about 60 seconds.
- Shrine and optionals
- After phase 2, a rest shrine will appear and the party can do the two optionals in the western and eastern rooms for an extra chest that can drop named loot.
- Completing the optionals increases the difficulty of the final boss through buffs
- Western room: Grix, a redcap boss in a room filled with traps. On elite+, it is recommended that trappers disable the traps. On hard and below, the party may be able to DPS the boss fast enough to not matter.
- Harpies sniping from above can actually be more trouble than Grix or his traps, at least on lower difficulties. Having some sort of ranged DPS character is very handy for this part.
- Eastern room: Pomura, a pixie boss. She will periodically teleport to a random location inside the hedgerow maze and you have to constantly chase after her to DPS her. A cold DOT will also apply on you in the maze and keep stacking. Orange-named wood woads and trash will also spawn in the maze to make things difficult while you chase her.
- If you complete both optionals, the second one will be harder, with the boss receiving a "Motivated" buff. As Pomura's boss fight is generally considered harder, she's usually done first.
- Shrine after doing the optionals if you need to before starting the final fight.
- Talk to Chogrum, Herald of the Hunt, in the center of the main room to proceed.
- Phase 3
- The Master of the Hunt will spawn with 2 Apex Hounds. He can also summon lost souls on the 4 stones.
- Kill the Master to win.
- The Master will summon Souls of the Hunted at a rate of four at a time, and will also use the time bomb mechanic from phase one. In addition, he has his own special attack where he marks a long track on the ground – if the Master ever shouts "Stampede!", look out for this. After a few seconds, ghostly beasts charge along this path, dealing massive bludgeoning damage to players they collide with.
Bonus XP
Loot
- Chests: 1–2
- One end chest
- Second end chest for completing both optionals
- NPC rewards:
