Attack roll

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

An attack roll represents your attempt to strike your opponent. When you make an attack roll, you roll a d20 and add your base attack bonus, relevant ability score modifier and other Attack bonuses. If your result equals or beats the target’s Armor Class, you hit and deal damage.

Melee weapons use strength for the ability modifier bonus to hit and all ranged or thrown weapons use dexterity. Enhancements, feats or special weapons may allow the use of other ability scores instead.

Automatic Misses and Hits[edit]

A natural 1 on an attack roll is always a miss. A natural 20 is always a hit.
Any natural roll within your weapon's critical threat will also hit: but may not always critically hit.

Proficiency with a weapon grants an additional +20% chance to hit, regardless of attack bonuses or the defender's AC; meaning a natural roll of 17, 18, 19 or 20 will always hit. Other percentage bonuses to hit can affect this further.
