To the southwest of Stormreach lies the untamed Tangleroot Gorge. Home to many fierce hobgoblin and bugbear tribes, Tangleroot Gorge also contains the infamous Hobgoblin fortress of Splinterskull.
Tangleroot Gorge has a level 4 Wilderness Adventure Area, allowing characters from levels 2 through 7 full XP rewards.
Note that while any character can start the chain (with the Level 3 quests), characters must be minimum level 4 to enter the last two (Level 7) quests to complete the chain.
Bug: The chain sometimes fails to register that you've completed a quest, leaving you unable to proceed to the next dungeon. Logging out and back in again reportedly solves this issue.
The Assault on Splinterskull story arc of quests all take place in this zone, in addition to the Rare Encounter / Slayer / Explorer quests. This story arc is often just referred to as "Tangleroot" and rewards House Phiarlan favor.
The Tangleroot map can be a bit confusing at first, with lots of twists, and jungle and ravines splitting the map.
Stepping out of the inn, take a hard left turn and go up the stonework road. At the top turn left (north), onto a dirt path (the stone road itself leads right to a possible rare (wolf) encounter). Keep north on the path, through some guard posts, then follow it as it slowly turns left (west) and drops down to a hanging bridge (cut back before the bridge to your right for a possible rare spider encounter). Go over that bridge and then immediately turn right over another, fighting some guards.
(From the inn, you can also just drop down into the ravine and head north, fighting trogs and wolves, until you reach a flat stone and a fragment of a wall on your right, and go up that path directly to the two bridges. However, you risk a rare giant encounter on the way, across from the trail.)
At the end of the second bridge, take a left (northwest) and go through a heavier guard outpost, bearing generally left (west then southwest). At the second outpost (which may have a rare bugbear encounter), turn left (south) before entering it, and follow that path to Ungurz and the (one) entrance to all the quests.
Fortification +75%Fortification +75%: This suit of armor or shield produces a magical force that protects vital areas of the wearer much more effectively. When a critical hit or sneak attack is scored on the wearer, there is a 75% chance that the critical hit or sneak attack is negated and damage is instead rolled normally.
ViciousVicious: When a vicious weapon strikes an opponent, it creates a flash of disruptive energy that resonates between the opponent and the wielder. This energy deals an extra 2 to 12 points of damage to the opponent and 1 to 3 points of damage to the wielder.
Ribcracker IIIRibcracker III: On Critical Hit: 7 to 42 Bludgeoning damage from weapons with a x2 Critical Multiplier, 7 to 56 Bludgeoning damage from weapons with a x3 Critical Multiplier, and 7 to 70 Bludgeoning damage from weapons with a x4 or greater Critical Multiplier.
Lesser Goblinoid BaneLesser Goblinoid Bane: A bane weapon excels at attacking one type or subtype of creature. Against Goblinoids, this weapon's effective enhancement bonus is +1 better than its normal enhancement bonus. It deals an extra 1 to 6 points of damage against the foe.
Silent MovesSilent Moves: This armor is well-oiled and magically constructed, so not only is it nearly silent, it also dampens surrounding sounds. It provides a competence bonus on its wearer's Move Silently checks.
Armor Bonus +5Armor Bonus +5: This item surrounds the wearer with an invisible but tangible field of force, granting +5 armor bonus to AC, just as though he were wearing armor.
Axeblock IIAxeblock II: Passive: Reduces physical damage taken by 4, except from Bludgeoning or Piercing weapons. (Damage Reduction: 4/Pierce, Bludgeon)

Find the far side of the broken bridge - Across the gorge you see the One-Eared Bugbear Inn and the other side of the broken bridge.
Find the temple ruins - Temple ruins rise out of the riverbed, remnants of some long forgotten civilization.
Discover the wolf hunter's fate - You see the grim remains of the wolf hunter, whose felled corpse rests trophy-like in the wolf den.
Find the hobgoblin scout post - This hobgoblin scout post is the first line of defense for keeping intruders out of Tangleroot.
Find the hobgoblin battle ram - This hobgoblin battle ram blasted open the gateways of many forts and towns, making way for merciless hobgoblin invaders.
Find Chief Ungurz' camp - The hobgoblins here do not seem hostile. In fact, their chief beckons you closer.
Find the sacrificial site - From the blood and the bones piled here, this is a sacred place to the troglodytes; a sacrificial site.
