Tips and Misc
- This quest can be done with minimal combat, with some skill & luck (although you do have to kill the Fomorians and their minions in the village).
- Amphitheater (north portal)
- In order to get rid of the griffons, you have to tend the Matriarch Griffon's wounds, found at the east end of this area. This can be done using the Heal, Spot, or Spellcraft (DC: Elite ≤ ♠29Elite) checks.
- Optional (+10% XP): After you heal her, a group of goblin and bugbear hunters will burst in from the northwest. Kill them all (you cannot target the griffons at this point).
- Alternatively, you can just attack the Matriarch and then kill all the other griffons. If you go this route, there won't be any hunters (or optional XP).
- Village (center portal)
- The first group of villagers can be rescued with Use Magic Device (DC: ♠29Elite ●♦60Epic Normal ●♠68Epic Elite) checks (Bug: it gives an option for Open Lock; however, both options use UMD). Unlike Underdark Slaves, failing a skill check won't kill villagers and you can try many times.
- Optional (+10% XP): The second group, inside a pair of stockades, just need to be spoken to.
- You can use Bluff, Intimidate, or Diplomacy (DC: Elite ≤ ♠29Elite) to try to convince Lurts to turn on his brother; if you free the first group of villagers before talking to him, he can distract the others long enough to pick off the minions.
- Failure will result in him attacking you.
- Bandit Caves (south portal)
- In order to recover the chalice, you will need to find two runes in the caves. Activating both runes will open a passage in the central "pillar" of the map. This leads to the boss and her pet giant crab "Bubbles". Kill both, grab the wine chalice on the desk and return to the hall of the Prince of Frost.
- The Near-sighted Sentries will only see if you get close.
- There's no need to sneak in the small rooms at all, and the pair of werewolves are fairly easy to avoid without stealth. Just look around and use the terrain to hide from them as they walk by on their patrols. No need to even sneak.
- If you fail to avoid them, they'll set up a howl which will wake up all the bandits, including the leader who will put up a barrier by the exit and a dimensional anchor. Killing Zannyx Folkeren (found by the barrier) will cause the barrier to drop, but not the dimensional anchor.
- Optional (+10% XP): The hidden treasure in the bandit caves can be found using two poorly written journals, also found in the caves. Use [/say <LeftWord> <RightWord>] to say the two words in the room indicated by the Dusty Journal (one of the corner rooms; use Q (the default key for selecting interactables) to find the Fancy Ice Wines and try the adjacent walls in both rooms if you're not sure which is correct.) This will grant an extra Chest. Phrases are mixed together from the following lists:
- First (Left) word:
- Valuable
- Verbose
- Vigilant
- Violent
- Second (Right) word:
- Efficiency
- Embrace
- Enchantment
- Enjoyment
- First (Left) word:
- Optional (+2% XP + chest): Find the secret room, and /say the secret words to open it. When you get back to the throne room, speak to the Sommelier (first?) to get your extra XP.
- The Runes can be targeted through the doors, but the journals cannot.
Bonus XP
- Devious bonus: 8–10 or fewer monsters killed +7% Bonus.( ♣103 ♦183 ♥195 ♠207 )
- Aggression bonus: 51 or more monsters killed +10% Bonus.( ♣147 ♦262 ♥279 ♠296 )
- Onslaught bonus: 67 or more monsters killed +15% Bonus.( ♣221 ♦393 ♥418 ♠443 )
- Mischief bonus: 64 or more breakables smashed +8% Bonus.( ♣118 ♦210 ♥223 ♠236 )
- Vandal bonus: 85 or more breakables smashed +10% Bonus.( ♣147 ♦262 ♥279 ♠296 )
- Ransack bonus: 103 or more breakables smashed +15% Bonus.( ♣221 ♦393 ♥418 ♠443 )
