Overview
Madoc Silverlight says to get inside Hyrsam's stronghold you'll need the help of the Prince of Frost. Go to Bitterspine Palace and ask the arctic Archfey to return the favor you did him earlier. You did get rid of that Hag, after all.
Objectives
- Speak with the Prince of Frost to call in your favor.
- Deal with the Griffons inside the amphitheater.
- Recover the stolen Wine Chalice.
- Liberate the village taken hostage by Fomorians.
- Return to the Prince of Frost
- (Optional) Tend to the Griffon Matriarch's wounds.
- (Optional) Defeat the hunters chasing the Griffons. (13 total)
- (Optional) Find and take the treasure hidden in the bandit caves.
- (Optional) Inform the Sommelier about the Ice Wine.
- (Optional) Rescue the villagers (10 total)
- (Optional) Rescue more villagers (10 total)
Tips and Misc
- This quest can be done with minimal combat, with some skill & luck (although you do have to kill the Fomorians and their minions in the village).
- Amphitheater (right-hand portal)
- In order to get rid of the griffons, you have to tend the Mariarch Griffon's wounds. This can be done using the Heal, Spot, or Spellcraft checks. After you heal her, a group of hunters will bust in from the northwest.
- Alternatively, you can just attack the Matriarch and then kill all the other griffons. If you go this route, there won't be any hunters.
- Village (center portal)
- The first group of villagers can be rescued with Use Magic Device (DC: ♠29Elite ●♠68Epic Elite) checks (Bug: it gives an option for Open Lock; however, both options use UMD). Unlike Underdark Slaves, failing a skill check won't kill villagers and you can try many times. The second group, inside a pair of stockades, just need to be spoken to.
- You can use Bluff, Intimidate, or Diplomacy to try to convince Lurts to turn on his brother; if you free the first group of villagers before talking to him, he can distract the others long enough to pick off the minions.
- Failure will result in him attacking you.
- Bandit Caves (left-hand portal)
- In order to recover the chalice, you will need to find two runes in the caves. The Near-sighted Sentries will only see if you get close.
- There's no need to sneak in the small rooms at all, and the pair of werewolves are fairly easy to avoid without stealth. Just look around and use the terrain to hide from them as they walk by on their patrols. No need to even sneak.
- If you fail to avoid them, they'll set up a howl which will wake up all the bandits, including the leader who will put up a barrier by the exit and a dimensional anchor. Killing Zannyx Folkeren (found by the barrier) will cause the barrier to drop, but not the dimensional anchor.
- The hidden treasure in the bandit caves can be found using two poorly written journals, also found in the caves. Use [/say] to say the two words in the room indicated by the Dusty Journal (one of the corner rooms; use Q to find the Fancy Ice Wines and try the adjacent walls in both rooms if you're not sure which is correct.) This will grant an extra Chest. Phrases are mixed together from the following lists:
- First (Left) word:
- Valuable
- Verbose
- Vigilant
- Violent
- Second (Right) word:
- Efficiency
- Embrace
- Enchantment
- Enjoyment
- First (Left) word:
- The Runes can be targeted through the doors, but the journals cannot.
