Tips and Misc

• Your old acquaintance/partner in (metaphorical) crime/partner in (actual) crime/tentative friend Fred has invited you out on a date, apparently for research purposes. He's planned a visit to three landmarks across the city of Sharn.
• First on the itinerary: a picnic in a Sharn park. After a couple of altercations where Fred alternates between speaking like a Regency romance novel and an obnoxiously lovey-dovey teenager, you are asked to craft first a brain-and-cheese sandwich, then a bouquet.
  • It's not indicated anywhere yet, but your choices here will determine whether Fred considers this a "bad" or "nice" date later, so make sure to play along with Fred's acting if you're after maximum XP here.
  • If there are multiple non-hireling members in the party, multiple Freds will spawn here and in the restaurant. Somebody needs to talk to each of them, although there's no requirement for this to be a different person each time. To get the optional, the majority of people need to use the "nice" date options.
• The flowers for Fred's bouquet are being guarded by some Blights, Water Elementals, a Shambling Mound and a Kelpie. These are actually the only monsters in the quest you're allowed to outright kill, so if you're after XP bonuses for kills, make sure to stay here and farm some respawning Blights.
• Fred's next destination is a carnival in Upper Sharn, featuring such entertaining diversions as a game of Whack-a-Kobold, a test-your-strength game with a Cannith Crystal, a petting zoo and three obligatory fights with a bunch of carnival staff and a Fire Giant strongman. Make sure Fred is following you around for all of this – don't worry, he's a non-combat NPC, so he won't get in the way.
  • You're required to pet every animal in the zoo before moving on. Handily, each animal stops being selectable after being petted once.
  • You're allowed as many tries at Whack-a-Kobold as you like, and you have to succeed in order to progress. You don't have to use melee attacks on the kobold, you can use AOE's or ranged attacks. Success rewards XP and a chest.
  • You must attempt the Test-Your-Strength game in order to progress, but you don't have to succeed. Success rewards XP and a chest. (Legendary DC ~80 (76:Fail; 84:Success))
  • It appears that a critical hit on the strength crystal counts as a success. A character with 29 Strength succeeded on Legendary difficulty by rolling a 19 on the attack, which the in-game dice showed as a critical hit.
  • You're allowed as many tries at the Test-Your-Strength and Whack-a-Kobold games as you like. You have to pass the latter at least once to progress, but the Test-Your-Strength game is optional, although it will award XP and a chest if you succeed.
  • Middle City entrance is after the Fire Giant and near a chest.
• Finally, Fred invites you to a restaurant in the middle city. After a discussion on how your date went, you emerge into an alleyway, only to be jumped by a group of adventurers!
• After a bit of a scuffle, Jaime, the leader of the adventurers agrees to speak with you, at which point both you and Fred learn that they are under the mistaken impression that Fred is dating them. Fred, in his usual oblivious way, hadn't actually informed Jaime that his apparent romantic overtures were for research purposes, and eventually agrees to try putting his research into practice. Your own Baldur's Gate-style romance arc will apparently have to wait, but at least you get a chest for your trouble.
