An ambassador from the monster kingdom of Droaam has recently arrived in the city. The Coin Lords want you to investigate the recent Droaam landing on the Skyfall Coast.

Note: The quest is acquired in Lordsmarch Plaza, but the quest itself is in The Twelve enclave. To reach the quest, exit Lordsmarch Plaza by the south gate (to The Twelve), then head east on the path (next to the inn, and across from the airship portal) to reach the Skyfall Coast.

What to Expect

  • Gather your party before venturing forth: This quest requires the entire party to "gather" twice during the quest, and enemies appear after trails have been cleared. Do not go AFK.

Known Traps

Trap DCs

  • Four fire traps from statues at the end fight; control panels (4) are on either side of the door, and up the stairs to either side of the platform. The control panels cannot be found with Search until the War Captain enables the traps (when he's roughly at 75% HP).

Tips and Misc

  • This is a large open area. This walkthrough is an attempt to guide you in the direction you need to take.
  • Many mobs do additional elemental damage. Useful resists are acid (against Melf's Acid Arrow), cold, electricity and fire (against their arrows and fire walls).
  • There are 2 shrines, and, on Normal/Hard, an additional one at the entrance to the Vinethrasher Clan.
  • Speak with Henritta Daes. She tells you to your objective is " the south", and the quest objective says "...toward the southwest", but the trail you want starts east of Henritta. (There's also a path to the North-west but it's a dead end.) (WARNING!!!! if you Speak to Ilos Hrolk before Henritta tells you to you will not be able to complete the quest even with him dead you will still be told to go confront him)
  • Go east and then south (push "left"), killing scorpions, panthers and wildmen as you go.
    • If you avoid the sandy areas, the scorpions won't sense your presence. One way to do so is to hug the northern wall.
    • Needleclaw may appear either northwest of the first shrine or to the southwest (after circling around south, past the Panther Den).
    • Bashevis may appear either in the Panther Den (south of the first shrine) or among rocks to the southwest (again, after circling around south).
  • Smash the root walls when you get to them.
  • The path now turns west. At the path intersection (near the center of the map, near a mushroom collectable, where the voice-over mentions "...the tang of salty sea air"), go right (west). Assemble the whole party at Ullevian, and talk to him.
    • For the central shrine, and/or if you want the wildmen chest and/or a chance for the scorpions', go north at the intersection. After the shrine, you can drop down north to the wildmen, then push roughly east to the scorpions. Then go roughly south, smashing the root wall. This will dump you back onto the path southwest of the "panther den" (south of the first shrine).
      • You can also go reverse described above, starting past the panther den and pushing north through the wall. But you cannot climb up to the rest shrine, and must return the way you came.
      • Ringing the gong at the wildmen's shrine does nothing.
  • Go back to Henritta – only one person needs talk to her, but Droaam soldiers now block the path – kill them, or evade with stealth/invisibility. When you speak to her, even more soldiers will spawn on the path – best not to be separated if you can't solo or evade the battles.
    • Note: If you Parley with the wildmen (see below), you can get to Henritta and back more directly, avoiding the Droaam patrols.
    • To Parlay: go south from the intersection, and then west across the bridge. Convince the gate-keeper to let you into the village (Intimidate is fastest and has no skill check, but results in a fight – and a chest). Make your way to the bamboo enclosure and talk to Zharig the Vinethrasher.
      • Diplomacy: Zharig will let you through peacefully (no skill check). The two possible fights below are skipped.
      • Intimidate: You can fight the entire tribe for bonus XP and a chest.
      • Simply talking without using diplomacy or intimidate allows you to fight just the champion Kukennama for bonus XP and a chest.
        • † Only one of these two bonuses is possible. The chest is the same one as well.
  • After speaking to Henritta, back one more time, this time going south at the intersection, just a short distance. Where the path turns east, assemble the party at the root wall, the "entrance to the southern passage". Once all are gathered, you can smash it to proceed. Keep heading south, killing Droaam troops that appear – just follow the path.
    • When anyone approaches the War Captain's camp, he'll order the Droaam troops to "stand down", at which point the soldiers stop fighting. If you wish, after breaking down the root wall, one player can stealth ahead to the camp, and the path will then be clear for the other players.
  • When you enter through the heavy door to meet the war captain, there are four fire traps that will not activate until the fight starts. However, the trap control panels cannot be located until Ilos Hrolk (the War Captain) triggers them (when he's roughly at 75% HP).
    • The traps stop shortly after the fight is over
    • Note – there is no lever to open the door from the inside.
  • Speak to Ilos Hrolk. He'll try to recruit you; sadly, you can't accept his offer.
    • The fight doesn't start until you refuse his offer. Buff up before then.
    • If you kill the guards first, you can get an additional end chest and possibly XP (Hard/Elite only). Don't forget the guards outside the gate!
  • After exiting the quest, the gate back to Lordsmarch Plaza is through the caravan camp, behind the airship tower.
  • For the stealthiest players, it is possible to make precisely one kill to complete the quest: Ilos Hrolk. After he dies, you'll have a lot of cleanup inside his lair, but these will not count with completion. You must still speak with Henritta, Ullevian, Zharig (for peace pass-through and/or return) and Ilos himself, avoiding takedown of any animal, wildman, or Droaam fighter.

Notes: To get the kills bonus, you will need to fight respawned scorpions and jungle panthers. They stop respawning after you talk to Ullevian, other than a few scorpions east of the Large Pond (the second location for Needleclaw).
