Tips and Misc
- After a short run to an area and a few fights, most of this quest is taken up by a boss fight against a giant crab. The twist is that the crab is protected by magical shielding, and is totally immune to direct damage.
- The general aim in the Crab fight is to use the ballistae to try and overturn or incapacitate the 'angry giant crab'. This is simple enough; first, unlock and prime the ballista (using the Tile puzzle and levers in front of it.) Then, wait for the crab to emerge in front of the ballista, and when the DM announces that the Crab is vulnerable, use the ballista to fire at a large numbered circular target. A single hit will be sufficient to flip the crab over and break the shield around the Monolith.
- Make sure you wait until the crab is positioned directly in front of the correct target before firing, as each time you fire an arrow from a ballista its associated tile puzzle resets.
- Each of the four ballistae has a coloured flag behind it; to help indicate which specific coloured circular target face it aims and fires towards. You don't manually aim; the missile is designed to hit the paired corresponding circular target face of the same matching colour as the ballista's flag.
- The ballistae are also numbered with Roman numerals: Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ or Ⅳ on the stone base tile near the puzzle levers. The number displayed upon the circular target face have the Roman numerals: Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ, again allowing you to see which target the ballista arrow will hit when fired.
- The ballistae cannot injure players or monsters in their flight path, and exist only to attack the crab.
- The "puzzles" in front of each ballista are random but easily solved. Usually two levers match to flip the three bars, in rare cases all three levers have to be used.
- The crab has four stages:
- Underground
- Tunnelling up at one of the targets
- Raising belly
- Dropping and using a trip attack in its range
- This trip attack hurts, especially on Legendary, and it has a very large hitbox. Be careful while fighting near the targets.
- Try and keep the number of reinforcements down. You will miss a lot of shots due to interrupted lever pulls, and since waves spawn while pre-existing enemies are still in the arena, you are rather at risk of being overwhelmed otherwise. Raptors are a particular priority since they have a Trip move. (Note that if you can tank the orange-named Kopru through the crab-fighting section, no reinforcements will spawn until it is killed.)
- After landing a ballista hit on the crab, you can interact with it to flip it over and fight it. You can now kill the crab like any regular boss. Be aware that once the crab is flipped back over, the shrines disappear and will NOT reappear again, not even once the crab is defeated. If you die while fighting the crab, you will not be able to complete the quest or collect the end chest unless someone can raise you.
- When confronting the crab, make sure to clean the arena out first; the crab will spawn one more set of reinforcements itself when you flip it over, and you don't need any more company.
- The ballistae will have no effect on the crab once it is flipped back over.
- There is a point behind the Kopru statue which the crab cannot reach to attack, although it will still sometimes use its water jet attack, which deals fire damage.
- Allosaurus optional
- Go right around the fort to find this dinosaur. It is initially asleep, but will awaken if you attack the nearby raptors.
- The Allosaurus likes jumping to the side. This gets very irritating if using ranged weaponry.
