Wisdom is one of the six basic stats of DDO.

Wisdom (WIS)

Wisdom describes a Player Character’s willpower, common sense, perception, and intuition. While Intelligence represents one’s ability to analyze information, Wisdom represents being in tune with and aware of one’s surroundings.

Wisdom is the most important ability for Clerics, and it is also important for Favored Souls, Paladins, Rangers, Druids and Monks. If you want your character to have acute senses, put a high score in Wisdom. Every creature has a Wisdom score.

You apply your Player Character’s Wisdom modifier to:

Clerics, Paladins, Druid and Rangers get bonus spell points based on their Wisdom scores. The minimum Wisdom score needed to cast a Cleric, Paladin, or Ranger spell is 10 + the spell’s level.

Wisdom may be used to hit with Shortbows and Longbows if using the Zen Archery feat. To use Wisdom as attack and/or damage modifier in melee, use Flame Blade or some of the named items, for example Scepter of Healing.

The following Feats have a minimum Wisdom Requirement:

Raising Wisdom Scores[edit]

You can raise your Wisdom score from different sources, among them:

Base[edit]

  • During character creation, you can add up to 10 points to your basic Wisdom score, which means:
    • A Deep Gnome character can start with a Wisdom of up to 20
    • A Bladeforged or Warforged character can have a Wisdom of up to 16.
    • All other races can start with a Wisdom of up to 18
  • At the 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th, 24th, and 28th, you are allowed to raise a single ability by 1 point.
  • The Stat point raises are often referred to as "level-ups". These increases count towards Feat Pre-requisites.

Inherent bonus[edit]

Inherent bonuses stack with all other bonuses and also count towards Feat Pre-requisites.

  • A Manual of Understanding will raise the Wisdom score by the appropriate value. For more information, refer to Tomes. These bonuses will show on your character sheet in the Feat section.

Feat bonus[edit]

Unless noted otherwise, Feat Bonuses stack with each other and other sources of bonuses.

  • General Feats
    • Completionist feat - available at level 3 to completionists. Bonus of +2 to all abilities.- available at level 3 to completionists. Bonus of +2 to all abilities.
    • Great Ability - Epic feat available at level 21,24,27, or 30. Bonus of +1 to Wisdom. May be selected multiple times.
    • Racial Past Life Feats - The second Past Life Feat for Human is +1 Wisdom. These are auto-granted at level 1, but do not count for feat pre-requisites. For more information see: Racial Reincarnation.
  • Class Feats
    • Monk Water Stance provides a +2/+3/+4 Bonus to Wisdom when centered and in Water Stance.
    • Inspire Excellence Epic Feat provides Bard Song that gives +2 Competence Bonus to All Statistics. Does not stack with other Competence bonus.
    • Aureon's Instruction Level 6 Diety feat for Follower of Aureon provides +4 Wisdom for limited duration (24 seconds + 6 seconds per Religious Lore feat).
    • Ever Watchful Level 6 Diety feat for Follower of Helm provides +4 Wisdom for limited duration (24 seconds + 6 seconds per Religious Lore feat).
    • Luck of Olladra Level 6 Diety feat for Follower of Olladra provides +1d6 Wisdom for limited duration (24 seconds + 6 seconds per Religious Lore feat).
  • Epic Destiny Enhancements -
    • Divine Crusader Tier 1 - 6 Stat Increase - You can select a +1 Wisdom increase at each level for 2 EDP. Maximum of +6 total.
    • Exalted Angel Tier 1 - 6 Stat Increase - You can select a +1 Wisdom increase at each level for 2 EDP. Maximum of +6 total.
    • Grandmaster of Flowers Tier 1 - 6 Stat Increase - You can select a +1 Wisdom increase at each level for 2 EDP. Maximum of +6 total.
    • Primal Avatar Tier 1 - 6 Stat Increase - You can select a +1 Wisdom increase at each level for 2 EDP. Maximum of +6 total.
    • Primal Avatar Spirit Boon - +2 primal bonus to Wisdom while toggled on. Tier 5 Enhancement. Will not stack with other Primal Bonuses.
    • Fatesinger Echos of the Ancestors - Primal - Provides a +1 bonus to Wisdom for the Primal Avatar selector.
    • Fury of the Wild Acute Instincts - Provides a +2 bonus to Wisdom while raging.
    • Shiradi Champion Tier 1 - 6 Stat Increase - You can select a +1 Wisdom increase at each level for 2 EDP. Maximum of +6 total.
    • Shiradi Champion Audience with the Queen Can provide Pleasure of the Queen for a +4 Royal Bonus to Statistics or Joy of the Queen - Love for a +10 Royal Bonus. 5 minute duration.

Items[edit]

Unless noted otherwise, bonuses within a single category do not stack.

  • Enhancement Bonus
    • Random Loot Items may come with the enhancement bonus of +1 - +17.
    • Named Loot Items may come with the enhancement bonus of +1 - +18.
    • Cannith Crafting Items may come with the enhancement bonus of +1 - +15.
    • Slave Lords Crafting Items may come with an enhancement bonus of +5(heroic) or +17(Legendary) in the Prefix (Blue) Slot.
    • Colorless Augment Slots can be slotted with a Wisdom augment with an enhancement bonus of +1 - +8
  • Artifact bonus
    • Set bonuses Slave Lord's Sorcery Set provides +1 Artifact Bonus (Heroic 5 Piece Set) and +2 Artifact Bonus (Legendary 5 Piece Set)

Temporary bonuses[edit]

Unless otherwise noted, Temporary bonuses will not stack with bonuses of the same type from other sources.

  • Stacking bonuses - These bonuses are all temporary and seem to be Untyped and stack with all other sources
    • Yugo Pot bonus - The Yugoloth Favor Potion, Essences of Despair, adds a +2 bonus to Wisdom for 15 minutes.
    • Long Lasting Elixir of Owl's Wisdom - Found in the DDO Store or the Monster Hunter Vendor, provides a +2 bonus to Wisdom.

Theoretical maximum[edit]

NOTE: This is accurate through U35

The theoretical Sustainable maximum for Wisdom for a caster is 116/107 (Situational/Sustainable) in Primal Avatar using a Deep Gnome Cleric(or Druid or FvS) 18/ Monk 2.
The theoretical Situational maximum for Wisdom for a caster is 124/105 (Situational/Sustainable) in Shiradi Champion using a Deep Gnome Cleric(or Druid or FvS) 18/ Monk 2.

The theoretical Sustainable maximum for Wisdom for a non-Caster Character is 124/115 (Situational/Sustainable) in Primal Avatar using a Deep Gnome Fighter 12/Monk 8.
The theoretical Situational maximum for Wisdom for a non-Caster Character is 132/113 (Situational/Sustainable) in Shiradi Champion using a Deep Gnome Fighter 12/Monk 8.
The only difference will be the Class & Patron Enhancements.
  • +18 Class Enhancements
    • +10 from Kensai (23 AP, Power Surge +8 Wisdom, Tier 3 & 4 Wisdom +2)
    • +6 from Shintao (22 AP, Tier 3 & 4 Wisdom +2, +4 Ultimate Water Stance)
    • +2 from Ninja Spy (22 AP, Tier 3 & 4 Wisdom +2)

This yields a +8 Wisdom difference from the Cleric 18/ Monk 2 version above.
Note: This option only requires 4 levels of Monk, technically. You can obtain the necessary Adept/Master/Grandmaster of Forms Feats without 8 Monk levels. Thus you could do any number of build variations.
