Overview
Ymris the Yugoloth has proposed a deal: help him and his mercenaries assassinate the demon Kishnaurac, and he will help you retrieve the Orb that Kishnaurac is guarding for Lolth. If you can retrieve the Orb, it will bring you one step closer to freeing the Thread of the Weave.
Go to the Realm of Ruin inside the Demonweb and meet Ymris there. You can reach the Demonweb via Eveningstar Cavern.
- For the quickest path to get to this quest, see The Demonweb/Quests.
Spoiler Warning: Spoiler material below this point!
Objectives
- Talk to Ymris the yugoloth
- Remove the Sign of Binding
- Remove the Sign of Shielding
- Remove the Sign of Vigilance
- Disable the Orb
- (Optional) Let Ymris summon mercenaries — Bonus (15%): Epic( ♣1,351 ♦2,323 ♥2,394 ♠2,465 )
Known Traps
- Spell Wards that do substantial fire damage, all can be disabled.
Tips and Misc
- The geography is similar to Trial by Fury, with islands of stone connected by web-bridges, but less complicated and more intuitive.
- Graal'zerub can teleport off of the edge and fall. If this happens he may end up back towards the beginning of the quest. You will have to backtrack to kill him and complete the quest. This can be done after defeating Kishnarac.
- The Signs can either be touched to disable, which triggers a spell ward, or can be inspected closer to allow a check to be made to disable it without any problems. Binding (Touch and disable it.) has a UMD check. Shielding (Knock and shatter.) has a Strength check. Vigilance (Sweep it away.) has a Concentration check; if failed it summons a Hezrou.
- NOTE: If you want the tamper XP (Disarming traps bonus), you need to intentionally fail the first 2 Signs to generate the spell wards to disable.
- As of April 2020 the optional mercenaries do nothing to help you at all. They are inactive for the spider fight, but turn on you for the boss fight at the end.
- The chest which may contain the Spider-spun Caparison has been moved to the end of the quest and linked to allowing Ymris to summon his mercenaries with U17.
- Can be run solo in under 5 minutes making it a very fast loot and XP run. You can do the quest for loot over and over without returning to Eveningstar as long as you leave the orb alone.

Ymris, at start:
The Yugoloth Ymris stands on the next rise, waiting.
'Ah, you have come to honor our bargain. Good.'
Dialogue with Ymris:
Ymris tells you, 'Kishnaurac wrought Three Signs to seal off Ruin's Keep, where he guards this Orb you so desire. There is no entering 'til the Signs are gone, a task too clever for my hired blades and too bloody for myself.
When the signs are gone, the portals within will let us enter. We will meet you there, Otherworlder.'
You tell Ymris, 'Ruin's Keep?'
Ymris tells you, 'It is the heart of the greatcastle, which all these ruins once were. All from a kingdom Kishnaurac himself laid waste to.
This deed pleased Lolth, who hated this kingdom, and so Kishnaurac earned favor in her eyes. Now he is her Champion.'
You tell Ymris, 'So this is all his trophy? I see.'
Ymris tells you, 'Disable the Signs. Then meet in Ruin's Keep. I will be there with my hired blades.'
You tell Ymris, 'Your Hired Blades?'
Ymris tells you, 'I have paid some fighters of my own kind to join us.
When trying to kill a demon, I always bring twice the force I think I will need.
I have come to see Kishnaurac slain. I will take no chances.'
You tell Ymris, 'If you say so.'
Ymris tells you, 'Disable the Signs. Then meet in Ruin's Keep. I will be there with my hired blades.'
You tell Ymris, 'All right. Meet you there.'
Ymris says, 'Til Ruin's Keep, Otherworlder.'
With that, the Yugoloth vanishes from sight.
The shattered remnants of some fallen kingdom rest between the Demonweb's strands. Somewhere in here is the Ruin's Keep, the demon Kishnaurac, and the Orb.
To guard the Orb entrusted to him by Lolth, Kishnaurac fashioned three Signs of Power. While they hold, none may enter Ruin's Keep.
Several drow stand arguing before the first Sign.
Chosen of Lolth says, 'It is sealed. You saw for yourself.'
Planewalker Drow says, 'We brought this sacrifice all the way. Do you expect us to just go back?'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'What is that? Look!'
Planewalker Drow says, 'Die, intruder!'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'Desecrator'
Planewalker Drow says, 'Argh!'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'Lolth will punish you for this!'
The Sign of Binding lies at the edge of the ruins.
Sign of Binding: dialogue
- The sign pulses with demonic power. You somehow know you could break it with a single, deliberate touch.
- Touch and disable it.
- Look Closer.
- After a moment, you think you understand. It's held together by a single point. Simply find that point, and it would unravel.
- (UMD) Try to invoke it.
- Touch and disable it.
- After a moment, you think you understand. It's held together by a single point. Simply find that point, and it would unravel.
- Leave the Sign alone.
Speaking stone:
Speaking Stone says, 'Who goes there?'
Speaking Stone says, 'Have you come to challenge Kishnaurac? Folly!'
Speaking Stone says, 'Do you see me? I was demon once, and this is what he made me, for my treachery!'
Interacting produces the following lines:
- 'This place is Kishnaurac's. He paces these ruins, brooding over victories and foes he's slain.'
- 'I was a demon-like Kishnaurac once. I fought by his side! One day, I thought myself his better. This is what he made me.'
- 'Long ago, we fought in the Blood War, and lent our hands in wars of elves and gods. That is how Kishnaurac won Lolth's graces, and how I lost his.'
Planewalker Drow says, 'Why do we stand guard for that treacherous fiend?'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'Kishnaurac is one to Lolth's chosen.'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'You would do well not to question his will.'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'What is that? Look!'
Chosen of Lolth says, 'Desecrator!'
Sign of Vigilance: dialogue
- The Sign of Vigilance holds your gaze. You could scatter it with a sweep of your hand, but it would take longer to understand it.
- Sweep it away.
- Look closer.
- After a moment, you think you understand. It's held together by a single point. Simply find that point, and it would unravel.
- (Concentration) Gaze deeper, find the point.
- Sweep it away.
- After a moment, you think you understand. It's held together by a single point. Simply find that point, and it would unravel.
- Leave the Sign alone.
The Sign turns off with a reluctant, anguished shudder. A chill runs up and down your spine.
Beyond the second Sign, Ruin's Keep can be seen, a dark tribute to chaos, to decay, and to Lolth's will.
A solemn henchman stands guard before the third Sign and the Keep's barrier.
Graal'zerub says, 'I get to crush you myself!'
The power drains suddenly from the Sign in one violent jolt. You feel that you are not alone....
The third and final Sign has been undone. The barrier has dropped and the way into Ruin's Keep is clear.
The Yugoloth waits for you by the planar door.
Ymris says, 'You have met with success. That is well.'
Ymris says, 'My hired blades await my signal on the other side of this portal.'
Ymris tells you, 'Say the word, and I will call into the portal, and my hired blades will come.'
Ymris says, 'Make your preparations. I will call for them when you are ready.'
You tell Ymris, 'Do it. Try and summon your mercenaries.'
The Yugoloth agent calls into the planar door.
Yugoloth Mercenary says, 'Open the gate, that we may earn our keep!'
Kishnaurac with mercenaries:
The demon Kishnaurac, champion of Lolth, holds court in the great hall of Ruin's Keep. Contempt is written across his face.
The Glabrezu eyes the mercenaries. "Why fight against me.... when you can earn more fighting for me?"
"Pay us more?" Growls a Yugoloth soldier. "We're yours!"
Kaushnaurac says, 'Now, shall we play?'
After fight:
You have defeated Kishnaurac. The Yugoloth's contract is fulfilled and your collaboration come to an end. More importantly, the Orb is now within your reach.
