Name: Protection from Elements
School: Abjuration (Acid) (Cold) (Electricity) (Fire) (Sonic)
Primer: [[spells|]]
Spell Level: AotS 4 , Art 4 , Clr 5 , DarkA 5 , DrDi 3 , FvS 5 , Sor/Wiz 5 , Wlk 4 , Wild 5
Special:
Components: FocusFocus: A focus component is a prop of some sort. Unlike a material component, a focus is not consumed when the spell is cast and can be reused. This has no gameplay applications in DDO, as all characters are always considered to be carrying a focus component at all times and it does not require a inventory slot., SomaticSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations., VerbalVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. Certain rare spells, such as Silence Creature, may temporarily disable spells that require verbal components.

Description

Grants temporary immunity to five forms of energy damage for 1 minute per caster level, or until 12 points of energy per caster level (Maximum 120 points at caster level 10) for each energy type has been absorbed. Protects against: Acid, Cold, Lightning, Fire and Sonic.

Notes

Unlike Protection from Energy where each time you cast it you must select one out of five types of Energy, you only need to cast Protection from Elements once to get protection from all five types of Energy.

Note, this barrier of temporary HP can be considered "on top" of energy resistance effects like the Resist Energy spell, i.e. it takes the energy damage first and does NOT benefit from the damage reduction effect. This makes it a rather "soft" layer of defense that may need to be refreshed rather regularly.

The Primal Avatar Epic Destiny can upgrade this spell to provide 25 protection per caster level with no maximum caster level.
