This page provides an overview of Armor Class bonuses by type. Note that game mechanics and items are added or changed with each patch, so the information on this page might not be complete or correct.

Total armor class[edit]

A breakdown of a character's armor class is available by hovering over the total armor class number in the character screen. Generally, two armor class bonuses only stack if they have a different type. However, for armor class, this rule has many exceptions. See the list in the next section for details on which effects stack.

Armor class by source[edit]

The following table shows an incomplete list of different armor class bonuses.

The name of the item, spell or feat that gives the bonus
Type 
The type of the bonus. This entry has the form Type (Subtype), where Type is the category as it appears in game in the armor class field in the character sheet. Subtype is an arbitrary name chosen for the purpose of stacking - two armor class bonuses only stack if they have a different Type and Subtype.
Condition 
A condition that must be met for the bonus to become active.

Maximum dexterity bonus[edit]

Each character gains additional armor class bonus equal to his Dexterity bonus. However, this bonus is limited by the Maximum dexterity bonus. Both shields and armor limit your dexterity bonus, the lower of the two is the maximum dexterity bonus.
