Description
Powerful thorny vines rip out of the ground seizing all enemies in the area. Enemies save vs Reflex or become entangled, with a reoccurring Strength save to break free. Targets also take 1d6 in piercing damage every 2 seconds. All enemy movement through the area is slowed by 30%, no save. Area of effect fire spells with destroy these vines and free any entangled creatures. Incorporeal creatures and oozes are naturally immune. Fire elemental and other fire creatures are immune because they burn through the plants.
Notes:
- The in-game spell description for damage is incorrect. The damage is much higher than the numbers suggest. It states that it only deals 1d6 of damage when in reality it deals 1d6 per caster level of damage every 2 seconds.
- Area and Targetting: The Area of this spell is smaller than most standard cast in place spells. For example, if Web and Grasping Thorns are caster centered on top of one another, enemies will become ensnared by web, but will not take damage from Grasping Thorns as the the spell AoE has much smaller coverage. As a result, casting this spell on a moving target is likely to miss as the spell will fire where the enemy was at the time of casting, and the area is not large enough to catch the enemy in the edge before they get out of it's range. It is best to lead your target and manually cast this spell against moving targets.
