Minor edits and edit summaries[edit]

Hey there. I notice you've mark a number of edits as minor of which some are more than 500byte changes and you've added no edit summaries. Please read up on exactly what minor edits are and always use edit summaries. Thanks ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 22:19, April 13, 2014 (EDT)

  • Got it. I was just being lazy and not using edit summaries; I will start using them. Most of the ones today have been to change pages to use {{Ingredient}}. You're right though; some of those larger edits shouldn't have been minor. -- Zav (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 23:02, April 13, 2014 (EDT)

Template:SpellPower[edit]

It includes the old and recently new. Cuts down on two separate templates. Looks like you got all the spellpower types listed that I remember.

  • Add the dash between type and charges, ex. Greater Mending - 7 Charges (Recharged/Day: 5).
  • If I wanted to add/move Elemental Manipulation (currently in T:MiscEffects) from Alarphon's Staff or any other non listed or future Spellpower mutation to T:Spellpower would I be able to without having to badly mess with the code that is already there?→ Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 14:05, April 27, 2014 (EDT)
Dash Spell Power mutations such as Elemental Manipulation can be added to the the first #switch. New types and prefixes can easily be added to current #switches/#ifs. Zav (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 15:17, April 27, 2014 (EDT)
Looks good. Aldyron (ContributionsMessage) 15:41, April 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • I approve. Typo in cacophony. Much better than my hack to accommodate u21 special spell powers. Idea: add a special category to all non-standard sources of spell power.--Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 00:01, April 28, 2014 (EDT)
Typo corrected. Thanks. Added C:Nonstandard Spell Power items for when the Bonus Type is not the default or a Temporary Type is flagged as permanent, eg Permanent Nihil. I can rename it if someone wants something else. Zav (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 19:30, April 28, 2014 (EDT)

Thanks for the help on that[edit]

Used to edit wikipedia articles on occasion, just never really used templates much.

Deletions[edit]

Please don't delete anything else until we have a discussion. I'm heading out for the day with my 2 year old, but we need to discuss the deletion process. Thanks ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 08:46, May 24, 2014 (EDT)

  • Thanks. I went through and untagged a bunch of stuff you had tagged for deletion. When tagging for deletion, it is required as of right now to state why you think it should be deleted on the talk page. It is also considerate to notify the page creator or file uploader on their talk page of the request for deletion. The whole process is fairly confusing and I do not fault you at all about it. It is evident that I need to write a new gadget/script to simplify the process and I'll work on that. As far as the pages by Joenuts goes, he is an admin, and I don't usually delete other admins' stuff, no matter how useless it looks (unless it is actually hurting something). They usually had a plan for it or would have deleted it themselves (sometimes I'll poke them on their talk page to see if maybe they forgot about it). I only had to restore two of the things you deleted (a file that has historic usage and a category that would have ended up recreated or wanted). I'll work on writing that script and poke Xevo (Contribs • Message) again about flipping an important switch in the core php for the site to allow everyone to use it. For now, I've gone through and cleared out the flagged for deletion category and made a couple tweaks to the templates. I'll work on that script and if you have any questions about deletions or anything, feel free to ask me here, on my talk page, via email, on yahoo messenger, on google hangouts, whatever... I'm easy to find and I'm just about everywhere. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 08:32, May 25, 2014 (EDT)
  • Yea, I just figured Joenuts forgot about the pages, so I took care of them. Next time I'll poke the admin. Some questions for you. The C:Absorption items/<"element"> are not used. You can see the subcats that are used in C:Absorption items. Should the old subcats be deleted, redirected, or just left empty? F:Metero Swarm in Action.jpg has been replaced by F:Meteor Swarm.png and is no longer in use. Does this require using a delete/instantdelete template and a discussion or can the old file with the typo just be deleted? --Zav (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 13:52, May 25, 2014 (EDT)
  • Categories shouldn't normally be deleted, and those should still be used as far as I can tell unless absorption has been replaced. If the file is unused and is properly replaced, it can be deleted (just make sure it is clear in the deletion summary). ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 14:17, May 25, 2014 (EDT)
  • I'll have to look into that and see which works better. I had originally set it up to use the other cats, and actually think that way works better with the revisited system. They hurt nothing to leave them for now. :) As far as the file thing goes, I see your deletion and that is perfect by linking the replacement file. :) ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 14:37, May 25, 2014 (EDT)

Tabs[edit]

I notice you are now switching over to the new tab system - as feedback - has the new walk-through with all the explanation helped at all to enable this for you? The reason I'm asking is because its in my sandbox presently and will also have the signature tutorial along with it then that will all be inserted into the wiki help page under a Welcome introductory text - your thoughts? Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) | My projects | My ToDo list | My Sandbox | My Links 21:00, May 26, 2014 (EDT)

  • I have been using {{UserTabs}} since March. I decided to change the color scheme, tab order, and number of tabs so I created my own. I looked at your walk-through. Users don't need to put any code in their common.css to use the tabs. Also, you reference using {{UserTabs|...}} when you are having them create Template:<USER>Tabs. For a user that wants tabs and doesn't want to customize them they can just use {{UserTabs}} without making any backend pages and just putting {{UserTabs|<N>|<USER>}} on their pages. --Zav (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 21:38, May 26, 2014 (EDT)
    • You forgot to add: {{User:JJMC89/Tabs|1}} to your General page: User:JJMC89

Your signature[edit]

I think I have fixed your signature for what I think you want it to do...  — Zav on this page,  — Zav(C) on anyone else's talk page and  — Zav(C·T·E) on any other page. If you want to know where all of the resources are that will help you learn how I did that are (I linked most of them in the edit summaries), I'd be happy to teach you. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 19:57, May 27, 2014 (EDT)

  • Thanks for fixing it. That is what I wanted. I didn't know about using SAFESUBST:<noinclude/> with parser functions and magic words. I'm always willing to learn the tips and tricks of the wiki. — Zav 20:34, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • I am curious as to why you don't want to offer your email and contribs links on this page and your email and talk links on others' talk pages. I can see not offering a link to your talk page on your talk page though... ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 21:04, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • Contribs and email links are available under the Page Toolbox on the left when on my talk page so there is no need for them in my sig. I added all the links back to other user's talk pages. (I was just experimenting with differences I could make in my sig.) — Zav 21:54, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • While that is true, those links are at the top of the page and when your pages starts getting longer, they get harder to get to. Also, I'll note that from my mobile, pages are exponentially longer. Would you mind if I added a couple static links for those resources? ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 22:03, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • I didn't consider the page length and navigation difficulty on mobile devices since I only browse/edit from my desktop. You can add the static links. Where are you putting them? — Zav 22:15, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • Looks good to me. I had to add code to my common.css to make the sysop stuff show up. — Zav 22:54, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • You actually won't need that special code after tomorrow. I'm going to add some code to a handful of new stylesheets I'm creating for each access group that will be called upon from MediaWiki:Common.css. But, it won't hurt anything either way. :p ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 23:00, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • Ok. I noticed that I can't click on those links sometimes when the page is scrolled to the top. Scrolling down any amount makes the links clickable. (Win7/Chrome 35.0.1916.114 m) — Zav 23:02, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • I'm aware of that... It's because there is a z-index of -1 on those links, and there is a div that is over them by default when the page opens up. My test with Vector.css and Vector.js was an attempt to fix that. Same issue exists on the English Wikipedia which is MediaWiki's flagship wiki (the software we use)... Not too big a deal really. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 23:09, May 27, 2014 (EDT)
  • Ah, ok. And yea, it's not that big a deal. — Zav 23:23, May 27, 2014 (EDT)

T:Unsigned‎[edit]

Hey, I saw that you changed T:Unsigned‎ and what you changed it to doesn't work all that well for the output I was looking for. Please see the discussion I started on Tt:Unsigned‎ about it. Thanks ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 08:29, May 30, 2014 (EDT)

Thanks for cleaning up my messes[edit]

Gotta say, you've fixed my mistakes almost as soon as I make them. It helps keep the pages working... I'd be lying if I said I didn't overlook mistakes all the time. Just a question. Do you think we should have arranged the elements in alphabetical order, or in fire/cold/shock/acid like it is in the character sheet I'm quite OCD about that sort of thing. Edit: make that I have no clue where I got that idea from. Character sheet is acid-cold-electricity-fire. --Byeshklord (ContributionsMessage) 23:05, June 21, 2014 (EDT)

  • Alphabetical is best for something like this. Many pages on the wiki are arranged alphabetically; it makes it easier to find things. One would have to know the character sheet order to find them easily if we did it that way. (I'm sure some people don't.) Also, player elemental resistances have no effect on weapon properties. — Zav 23:26, June 21, 2014 (EDT)
