T:Bane[edit]

It would be nice, when you are updating templates, and changing template parameters, to also update all the topics that use the old syntax (bane|1..4|monstertype). If you are not willing to do this, perhaps don't change the template. It leaves the wiki ugly. Thanks. Also, I am in a bad mood today. -- Mildly pissed Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 08:19, October 1, 2014 (EDT)

  • Sorry about that. I meant to go back and do it a day or so after I updated the template but only changed items. I just went through and updated ~50-60 pages to the new syntax; however I didn't check all ~250 transclusions, but I should have caught most the ones in the old syntax. — Zav 21:22, October 1, 2014 (EDT)

T:UpgradeableAugment[edit]

First of all, sorry for being grumpy previously. Anyway, Item:Epic Death's Rampart and probably other macabre armor shows red/orange upgradeable slots. Can you solve this riddle? Thanks! --Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 03:50, October 6, 2014 (EDT)

  • This is now corrected. Adding them to the list of items should have worked; however, you would have to change the second parameter on pages other than the item's page, like Update 23 named items. — Zav 07:33, October 6, 2014 (EDT)

T:Seeker[edit]

If you had time, the template could use some more fixing. On one hand, there's Item:Skullduggery Kit (Level 26), on the other Special:WantedCategories. Seeker X items belong to seeker +10 cat, etc. Also, descriptions in the template are obsolete. --Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 14:56, October 12, 2014 (EDT)

  • The categorization has been fixed. I will take a look at the descriptions later. — Zav 15:08, October 12, 2014 (EDT)
    • The descriptions should now be current. — Zav 18:10, October 14, 2014 (EDT)

Minimum Level categories[edit]

While I agree they were improperly named, I do not think flat out deleting them is an appropriate course of action. They should all be redirects to the proper category (since the only difference is case, and I can see the alternate being a common search term). However, regular redirects don't work in the "Category:" namespace, which leaves us a bit of a dilemma. So, I'm proposing that all of those categories you just deleted as violations of the naming policy be recreated as what are known on the English Wikipedia as "soft redirects". This is simply a little content that says something like "This category should not have any members, they should all be on [[:C:This other category]] instead." We should probably make a template for this type of redirect, possibly T:Redirect cat so that we will be able to easily adjust the wording to be as appropriate as possible. One of us (most likely me, I suppose) should also write a bot that if one of those categories does get a member by accident, the bot will adjust the page to use the correct category. As I'm writing this on your talk page (since you went on the deletion streak), I'm starting to wonder if this should be on AN to get a broader view of the idea. What do you think? ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 13:52, November 2, 2014 (EST)

  • I deleted them for two reasons. As you said, redirects don't work in the Category namespace. Using NCL includes empty categories. If you use <ncl>Weapons by minimum level</ncl> it would include all those empty subcategories, which I don't think is desired. As far as search terms go, "Minimum Level X weapons" and "Minimum level X weapons" should yield the same results, including Category:Minimum level X weapons, so I don't see the need to keep or soft redirect the improperly named categories. You could add it to the AN; however, I don't know how much attention it will get. — Zav 14:21, November 2, 2014 (EST)
    • NCL wouldn't pick them up as sub-categories because they would be just soft redirects and not in the categories themselves. I do most of my navigating via the URL bar, and https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Minimum_Level_X_weapons doesn't go to the same place as https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Minimum_level_X_weapons and would give no indication to where the cat may have gone. I'll post on AN tonight, start creating the soft redirect cat tomorrow, and start creating the pages shortly after that. *sigh* ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 17:44, November 2, 2014 (EST)
      • Ok. I was thinking the soft redirects would be in the same parent cat as the cat they were redirecting to. I can restore the pages and put them in C:Soft redirects using T:Redirect cat or whatever method you setup. — Zav 19:48, November 2, 2014 (EST)
        • {{Redirect cat}} created (may be expanded upon at some time in the future to be slightly more automated in what it does exactly), I've gone through the last 500 deletions in the deletion log, and restored all :C: pages that could be restored and flagged as soft redirects reasonably. I've also created a tracking category for these pages where all of the members of the tracking category should be empty at all times. Next step for me is to go through Special:WantedCategories (which I'll be doing as soon as I finish posting this update) and create any of them as is appropriate. Finally, I'll create a bot that checks that category regularly and either attempts to fix any populated sub-cats or notifies me that there is a cat that needs fixing if it can't figure out how to fix it. That may be a bit though, since I'm not 100% on writing bots yet... Meh.. I'll get to it. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 14:41, November 3, 2014 (EST)
