Description: She is the niece of Friar Renau and daughter of Archbishop Dryden. She was sent to the depths of the Catacombs by the manipulation of Arkasic Dryden, who was possessing her father.

Used to spawn as a nigh-invincible enemy you had to evade in Setting the Wards: The Patriarchs' Crypt but was replaced by Beast of Bel Shalor.

When you meet her for the first time at Endgame: Marguerite, she will not be as aggressive as before, and will talk to you first.

  • Marguerite Dryden: So. The wraith's voice sounds jarringly close, as if she is speaking directly into your ear. You are my father's fool.
  • You: I am no one's fool.
  • Marguerite Dryden: Ha! Marguerite throws back her head and laughs wildly. He's betrayed you, dullard! It's what he's best at. You'll destroy me, and the undead will kill you. That's why he opened the crypts.
    • You: I thought you opened them.
      • Marguerite Dryden: Then you know nothing! Marguerite's eyes flare. Only the Archbishop can lower the wards!
        • You: But you control the undead. You wield the power of life and death.
          • Marguerite Dryden: Yes! At my father's behest! 'I've found a secret power, Marguerite. Help me unlock it, Marguerite. We can do this together, Marguerite, father and daughter!' He used me! And he destroyed me! A crackling nimbus of sickly light encircles Marguerite's head, rippling her cloak with an invisible wind. Her eyes blaze.
          • You: You're talking about the Duality.
          • Marguerite Dryden: He's known about the heresy since he was a child. But he was too much of a coward to seek it himself. Too pathetic to risk his career. But who would pay attention to poor, mad Marguerite? She giggles suddenly. Now he doesn't know what to do with me... that's why I must be destroyed.
            • You: You don't have to die.
              • Marguerite Dryden: Her voice softens. Of course I have to die. I'm a monster. After all I've done....
                • You: You can leave this place. Give up the Duality and never return.
                  • Marguerite Dryden: My father will find me. He'll never stop, never falter. He is like a golem, like a machine. He will find me.
                    • You: Go to your uncle Renau. I'll deal with your father.
                      • Marguerite Dryden: Uncle Renau... he lives? Father told me he was dead. The letters stopped....
                      • You: Renau is alive, and he'll help you. You'll find him near the entrance to these catacombs.
                      • Marguerite Dryden: I -- I was ready for death. I don't know how I can live with what I've done, but I'll try. But what about you? The undead won't hurt me, but they'll try to kill you. And my father....
                      • You: ...is a dead man. I promise you that.
                      • Marguerite Dryden: Marguerite nods. Then there's nothing for me here. You may leave, but you must purify the altar at the top of this shaft to open the secret way back to the catacombs from which you came. She fades away, and the glowing barrier blocking the level above vanishes as well.
                    • You: Not if I kill him, he won't.
                      • Marguerite Dryden: You don't know what you're saying. My father is powerful. And even if he's dead, where will I go?
                      • You: What of your Uncle Renau? (See above: "Go to your uncle Renau. I'll deal with your your father.")
                • You: You're right. How many innocents have died because of you? Only death will purge your sins! (Start battle)
                  • Marguerite Dryden: Marguerite grins horribly. Then destroy me, if you can.
            • You: I thought you'd want revenge.
              • Marguerite Dryden: When I came down here, I wanted nothing more than to ruin my father. To tear this place apart so the Church could see the rot within! If only they knew what he's done here... but I'm tired. All this hatred... I want it to end.
                • You: Leave this place. Give up the Duality and never return. (See above)
                • You: Death will end your hatred, abomination. Defend yourself! (Start battle)
                  • Marguerite Dryden: Marguerite grins horribly. Then destroy me, if you can.
        • You: And I suppose your father commanded the undead to destroy the Sanctuary, and the library?
          • Marguerite Dryden: No! I did that. I wanted to ruin him! Do you think I sought this power? It was him! 'I've found a secret, Marguerite. Help me unlock it, Marguerite. We can do this together, Marguerite, father and daughter!' He used me! And he destroyed me! A crackling nimbus of sickly light encircles Marguerite, then fades.
            • You: You're talking about the Duality. (See above)
    • You: Liar! Don't blame your crimes on your father.
      • Marguerite Dryden: You really are his fool. Will you thank him on your knees as he slits your throat?
        • You: But you're the one who controls the undead! It's you who wields the power of the Duality. (See above "But you control the undead...")
