Magic Fang

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search
Name: Magic Fang
School: Transmutation
Primer: [[spells|]]
Spell Level: DarkH 1 , Drd 1 , Rgr 1
Special:
Components: SomaticSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations., VerbalVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. Certain rare spells, such as Silence Creature, may temporarily disable spells that require verbal components., MaterialMaterial: A material component is one or more physical substances or objects that are annihilated by the spell energies in the casting process. You must have the required items in your inventory. If you run out of the components, the game will not allow you to cast the spell and will instead inform you of what component is missing. The metamagic feat Eschew Materials and some enhancements in Draconic Incarnation can remove this restriction.
SLA: Shifter, Razorclaw Shifter
Spell Point Cost: 5
Metamagic: Eschew, Quicken
Target: Friend, Self
Range: Standard
Duration: 1 minute per caster level
Saving Throw:
DC:
Spell Resistance:
Cooldown: 2 seconds
Augmentation: None

Description

Increases the Enhancement Bonus of the target's natural weapon by 1, plus 1 per five caster levels. An item can have only one temporary item enchantment at a time. Only works on players, hirelings, or pets, and only if they are Animals, Vermin, Magical Beasts, Dragons or Fey.

Notes

  • Stacks with a weapon's base enhancement bonus. Also works on shields.
  • Can be cast upon shape-shifted druids and other creatures with natural weapons. TIP: The effect is not dispelled by changing back into your normal form.
  • Shifter and Razorclaw Shifter player characters are eligible targets, and it affects equipped weapons (not just natural weapons). This stops working if a Shifter's effective type is changed in some fashion, making them ineligible - this is rare, but can occur in a few ways:
    • Taking 20 levels in Monk automatically grants Perfect Self, forcibly changing a character's type to Lawful Outsider.
    • The Artificer feat Improved Construct Essence changes a character's type to Living Construct.
    • Several Transformations overwrite the character's type (Transformations that set the character's type to Animal, Magical Beast or Vermin, or do not affect it, don't prevent Magic Fang from being used):
      • Undead: Pale Master Shrouds, Dark Apostate's Shadow Shrouding, Warlock's Channel the Abyss, and the buff applied by the Cursed Blade of Jack Jibbers. Pale Master's Animate Ally enhancement applies the Shroud of the Zombie to the target until their next rest - this is the only way to have a character's type changed in a way that is outside of their own control.
      • Elemental: Druid Fire/Water Elemental and Sorcerer Elemental Apotheosis forms.
      • Plant: Blightcaster's Blighted Wolf and Thorn Knight forms.
  • Bug: At level cap the buff is immediately removed after application.
    • Details: At CL 40, this spell has a bug where its application fails. This is usually only possible through Shifter, whose racial SLA has a caster level equal to character level. 34 + 7 bonus is enough to break this threshold.
  • Spell is removed if the weapon is unequipped (Since U38).
