F2P The Lost Gatekeepers?[edit]

Okay... I will not enter in edit war here. Instead, let me list my arguments. First: all the evidences are in favor of being a bug allowing F2P characters to enter all the Cerulean Hill dungeons (note that the wilderness if F2P). What is the most probable? They forgot to put a paywall to enter these dungeons, or mistakely added paywalls to all the rest (including leaving the dungeons)? Second: if you read the description of the lost gatekeepers adventure pack on DDO store, they are selling 5 quests, not just one. Third: nobody noticed this bug before because of both the F2P period, and the DDOFREEQUESTS code. My opinion! Better if we discuss this in a talk page than undo our own edits. Other editors can give their opinion here as well. MrLizard (ContribsMessage) 11:02, November 11, 2020 (EST)

  • What's most probable imo is the way they SSG left it as currently F2P accessible with a trap to buy in to get out unless you know what you're doing. It is very sleazy imo. It has nothing to do with the Cerulean Hills wilderness zone being F2P. Searing Heights wilderness is also F2P but the Sentinels of Stormreach quests inside are properly blocked off to F2P while The Promise of Fire is open to F2P.
Look at the way they placed new players after exiting Korthos Island. The bridge path from Valeria forks to Gatekeepers Grove or to the rest of Harbor. I think they were hoping that some new players will definitely step inside the grove first, grab the quests then move onto cerulean hills and do the first four quests. It's like they placed a trail of gumdrops for new players to get stuck inside one of those quests until they BUY NOW unless they get killed or /death which most new players won't know about at all. And for those that managed to get out. They told them, ok, we'll let you do the first four quests for free but you can't get inside the Hut and get the really good Item:Book of Spirits or finish the quest chain/story unless you buy the pack or subscribe to VIP. Nice gimmicks SSG is using these days. -- Overvaan (ContribsMessage) 11:21, November 11, 2020 (EST)
One other thing is the whole quest series was about four souls of adventurers getting trapped by the three hags (Jerry, Robert and Steelstar perhaps?) It's just another clue that they intended to trick new players this way. They're probably not going to fix the "bug" unless someone makes a huge bitchass complaint about it because it benefits them to troll new players into ponying up some moneys for a dungeon exit or a Black Unicorn. Yeah, they could have just blocked the dungeon entrances as usual but they tried something dirty this time around. -- Overvaan (ContribsMessage) 11:51, November 11, 2020 (EST)
  • The Adventure Pack 'The Lost Gatekeepers' can be purchased; it's not meant to be: Free-to-Play. The quest: 'The Promise of Fire' was always meant to be F2P, and has nothing to do with the "Gatekeepers" whatsoever.
The "Hut from Beyond" (Harbour); was altered in U48 to also function as a gateway to 'The Fables of the Feywild'. Therefore if any F2P players can run any of the quests from 'The Lost Gatekeepers' pack (we have to assume the edit was in good faith), without a purchase - or code - it's clearly a bug, which SSG might not be aware of, and would clearly need to resolve.

  • I agree with Dywypi. I also want to add that if something is bugged or disputed (like shiradi some years ago), it should be clear in the page that this is not the stated behavior and is probably going to change in the future. Otherwise, players that see this information once and stick to it will have been misinformed by the wiki when it changes (possibly without release notes). So I think it's important that the quest infobox does not say free to play but there be a notice marked with {{Bug}} saying that it is currently accessible (along with the solution to get out of the dungeon). ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I've cleared the text after some discussion on Discord chat server and have asked SSG for clarification on if this is an exploit, bug, or WAI. If +Cordovan comes back and tells me it's anything except an exploit, we'll document the actual behavior as is appropriate.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 12:21, November 11, 2020 (EST)

Right now the four Gatekeeper quests in C. Hills are open to F2P so they should be listed as free with an asterisk* or that you have to die to get out of them or buy the pack. Until they fix whichever bug it is or properly close off the dungeon entrance to F2P, it would be a disservice to list it as non-F2P but it's not really a big deal. If they want to sell more Feywild packs they're going to have to make all of it including the hut quest F2P just like they made the 4 part Lord of Dust Chain F2P along with MotU. It is like they're either sinister or incompetent or both with the current implementation of "how to get to Feywild". Eh, it just came out last week so I suppose we should give them some time to fix it. -- Overvaan (ContribsMessage) 12:37, November 11, 2020 (EST)

  • Side note: Just to separate things. The ability to acquire a paid quest from a red chalice quest giver using a F2P character is WAI (just tested it with the first quest of Catacombs using a F2P character). What you cannot do with a F2P account is to enter the dungeon itself, where the paywall should be. MrLizard (ContribsMessage) 13:22, November 11, 2020 (EST)
