Taurolyon ( Talk • Contribs • Patrol • Moves • Year •  )

I recently had the opportunity to look over the Administrator Criteria and feel I meet these requirements, and would be honored for your consideration.

I currently do not have any large wiki projects, but I have plenty of time to invest if I should start/restart any. Currently, my edits consist of basic wiki, page creations, formatting, and PNG uploads to replace our default "no pic" and question mark icons where needed. I also try to focus on accuracy and highlighting the important information, where applicable. In doing this, I try to make it easier for both myself and the average DDO wiki user to read and get the information they require.

Why I might require Administrative access:
In addition to regular edits and additions I've been currently doing as a wiki-VIP member, I would be happy to undertake the duties of the administrator. There have been many times I've gone to find pages on Special:WantedPages to find something more to contribute. I've found instances where I've updated old GIFs and pixelated/mosaiced JPGs and replaced them with new PNG screen captures. This unfortunately orphans the old image. As an admin, I could archive/delete the former image, freeing up hosting space.
I'm also familiar with MediaWiki in general, as I've used it for other projects.
As Shade has mentioned, I understand there is an abundance of administrators at this time. Taurolyon (ContributionsMessage) 15:16, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

I've reviewed the edit history fir Taurolyon (Contribs • Message) and see some projects in there, and 1K+ useful edits.

I also see a lot of gaps in editing. Three weeks at the end of Feb. 2012, five weeks from Christmas 2011 until the start of Feb. 2012, Three weeks from start of Dec. 2011 until a couple days before Christmas 2011, two months from start of Oct. 2011 until start of Dec. 2011 and 3.75 months from Christmas 2010 until the end of March 2011.
October 10, 2011 would mark the start of the six month span, however, he was on a two month hiatus at that time and did not resume his editing until December 3rd, 2011. In the span from December 3rd, 2011 until now, there were exactly three gaps: the first was in th 2-3 week range, the second was about 5 weeks, and the most recent was a day over three weeks.
All three of the gaps that are in this range exceed the two week mark, however there are only three. The first gap was two days short of three weeks, during the Christmas shopping time. I see no reason to throw a fit over five days preparing for one of the largest holidays of the year. The five weeks from Christmas 2011 until Feb. 2012 exceeds the second parameter of the six consecutive month rule; however, I feel that since this is the holiday season and it is slightly more than the one month allowed, it should be excused. The most recent shows an established pattern of edit and not edit sections as I would expect a person with a life to have..
This prompts me to re-consider the current policy to be not quite as restrictive.
In summary, I believe that if Taurolyon (Contribs • Message) continues to make edits from now until June 3, 2012, I would be happy to promote him to sysop. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 19:07, April 10, 2012 (EDT)

Just a tip Taurolyon - Deleting images never helps "freeing up hosting space". As currently all pages and files are stored forever. Deletion only remove access to them - they can be undeleted at any time, even images deleted 6+ years ago are still available, it's not a particularly important or high priority role for admins atm. Until Xevo asks us to help free up space and actually starts clearing deleting files from the server... In general it should be not be something you worry about. You could tag old images as redundant, but I would not delete them. Deleting them instantly would also violate the current Deletion policy... So be sure to review that. With how low hard drive prices are these days, I don't see it really ever becoming an issue at our current rate of growth. Less Xevo starts up a bunch more wikis on his same server cluster heh.

Given that, I see no particular need for you to be a sysop straight away. I'd agree with Techs analysys and say continue to regularly contribute until June, then get the promotion based on our current policy. Though we could make you a super user if you wanna patrol edits.→ Shade (ContributionsMessage) 11:35, April 11, 2012 (EDT)

He is a super user. We actually do have a sister wiki on the server (TOR wiki), however, it currently seem virtually no use other than spambots and Xevo and I deleting them.. I'm thinking about renaming the proper "delete" links to something like "Recycle" which basically sums up our delete function where it is similar to Windows' "Recycle Bin".. Perhaps that would be less confusing? ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 11:58, April 11, 2012 (EDT)
Thanks for the info, Shade. I hadn't realized that the "deleted" orphans were just archived. Thanks for the patrol promo - I have yet to see anything. I guess this is a good thing? Smile Taurolyon (ContributionsMessage) 13:38, April 12, 2012 (EDT)
What it means is that non-registered / non-vip+ users are not editing. Not sure if I classify that as a good thing Confused Face ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 14:37, April 12, 2012 (EDT)
Thanks for the review and support, Shoe. I was curious if I could get some more info as to the Special:Patrol requirement, as I don't have access to it at the VIP level. I understand the Super User has access to this if you need additional people to address this. Taurolyon (ContributionsMessage) 20:31, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
The function of "Patrol" is, in a nutshell, to approve edits by the general person. Each edit that is done by an Anonymous, or Non-VIP, is automatically tagged as "Un-Patrolled", and shows up with a red ! in the Recent Changes list. When using the Special:Patrol function, it allows us to review the edit, approve the edit, or revert the edit to the last revision in one stroke. Yawgmoth (ContributionsMessage) 20:42, April 10, 2012 (EDT)
The 6 months limit should be reviewed, 6 months is a long period of time in someone's life and an even longer period in a game's life.

Anyway another sysop would do the wiki good seeing how of the 18 that exist now almost half are MIA and one is Tech's twin. So thumbs up from me for Taurolyon and bonus points for him having played Saga of Ryzom.→ by Mjoll (ContributionsMessage) 03:27, April 11, 2012 (EDT)

Due to the new "Probational" provision of this user group, unless anyone strongly objects, I would like to promote Taurolyon (Contribs • Message) to sysop in 2 days (Friday, May 4, 2012) ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 22:33, May 2, 2012 (EDT)
Promotional sysop expired and he met all of the requirements.. Was left at sysop and I am archiving this nomination. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 00:02, June 14, 2012 (EDT)
