House Kundarak Enclave[edit]

If you try to talk to him while at level 4 or lower, he will reply:

  • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: House Kundarak and banking are synonymous throughout Eberron! In light of our generations of experience and the unique powers of the Mark of Warding, you'd need to be an idiot or a criminal to do business with a bank that does not bear Kundarak's sigil.

If you are at level 5 or higher, however, he will reply:

  • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Ulfgar has a permanent scowl etched on his face. Speak quickly! trouble's well afoot, and it always falls to me to snatch the bacon from the proverbial fire. Are you here to help or gawk, <boy/girl>? Speak up!
    • You: What in Xen'drik are you talking about?
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Ulfgar runs a hand through his thick beard. A rube, eh? Perhaps this is a fortunate day for me. You know nothing of the trouble we face?
      • You: Nothing at all, but I'm not sure I like where this is headed....
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Ah, fear not! I do not expect you to set off down a dark and perilous path without hope of reward. House Kundarak is wealthy and powerful, and we richly reward those who risk all in our service. And that is what you must be prepared to risk....
      • You: I'm interested, all right? Don't be coy, just say what you need.
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: The <man/woman> asks me to banish coyness from my speech? Then coyness begone! One of our digging enclaves in the hills—a long-term expeditionary camp built to explore lucrative sites in the area—has suffered a disaster. As dwarves are too often inclined to do, we kept out troubles secret too long and tried too hard to handle them outselves. Now our hopes of recovering our investment are grim indeed. But your presence brings me a glimmer of hope!
      • You: I am listening....
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: indeed you are! And I am grateful for your open yet careful demeanor. Ulfgar clears his throat. A week or three ago, an exploratory delve into the caverns of Xen'drik ran afoul of trouble. The prospectors, diggers, miners and appraisers on the dig—all ran mad and disappeared! Worry was already spreading throughout House when the branch bank at the dig site lost contact with out network.
      • You: Lost contact?
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Aye, all House Kundarak banks are magically linked. They never just drop out of sight, but this one did. We dispatched a team of stout rangers, and they returned to us reporting the worst—the site had been overrun by the undead! We instructed them to seal the dig site and cordon off the area.
      • You: Is this not a matter for the Silver Flame?
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Ulfgar laughs bitterly. Aye, the Silver Flame would raze our camp, burn our supplies, and destroy everything we gained from our labors, just to be safe! But the lost delvers were on the trail of incredible riches, precious to the ancient giant-kings of Xen'drik, and I will not sacrifice our stake to blind faith and fanaticism. We do not need the raging inferno of the Silver Flame. We need a clever <lad/lass> like yourself to find out what happened to our explorers. Perhaps even to destroy their bane and revive Kundarak's hopes of profit. Are you interested?
        • You: I'll do it. How do we get started? (see below)
    • You: I'm a <man/woman> of action! Just tell me where to fight. (This options appear many times in the dialogue chain, always leading to this response)
      • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: You will not regret this. I shall arrange your passage to the outskirts of the dig. Axelrod Gunnerson waits there with his companions, guarding the fallen site and making sure the undead stay contained, and he will inform you further of the situation. You must trust Axelrod and do as he requires!
        • You: Very well. send me to the camp! (Bestow quest)

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make he say:

  • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Do you wish me to arrange your passage to the dig at Korromar? Axelrod is still waiting for the reinforcements I have promised. With some desperation, I should imagine.
  • You: Very well. send me to the camp!

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

  • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Ulfgar looks ecstatic to see you. <name>! My heroic friend! Axelrod's report had already reached my joyous ears, but I must confirm it for myself. Can it possibly be true? You descended into our excavation and slew a beholder? The misbegotten spawn of Xoriat haunts Korromar no more?
  • You: The beholder is dead, but Korromar is still thick with evil. I think you should renounce your ambitions there.
  • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Ulfgar smiles broadly. Of course, of course! I shall deliver your opinion to my superiors, along with my very strongest concurrence. I am sure they will see the wisdom of abandoning Korromar. You need never concern yourself about this matter again. Now, I believe I owe you a fine reward....
  • You: I believe you do.

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

  • Ulfgar d'Kundarak: Based on your report, I am sure House Kundarak will avoid the dig at Korromar for many years. It is clearly a place of the vilest evil, and I'd not risk another dwarven soul for all the lost treasures of the giants! At the word 'treasures,' Ulfgar's eyes gleam like a dragon's, and you relaize he's lying with every word.
