Item talk:Small Candle

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search
I believe this page should not be deleted ( and deletion tag should be removed ) for the following reasons.
1) The page displays detailed information about a particular item ( component ) that exists in the game.
2) The page is correctly placed in the "Item" namespace, as all items should be.
Normally, when an item page is migrated to the item namespace, the original page is replaced with a redirect, and the contect from the original page is moved to a corresponding page in the item namespace.
The reason I chose not to do that in this case was to give viewers an opportunity to view the original page Small Candle AND the revised version Item:Small Candle. That way, comments could be made on the revised page, noting anything missing, or extraneous.

Page duplication and Template style does not win me over. The information how its presented failed my how would it look if I transcribe all 9 components place them on one page. It look bad, it was done before and abandoned. Then again all the individual pages could redirect to one master page with all 10 spell components a cleric/fvs uses which includes where they can be purchase or found, The one page to rule them all rule (where appropriate). One stop trip without the need of a template and some info. See below: Add the remaining clc/fvs comps, a ToC , categories at bottom, go to individual pages redirect to master page, clean up any double redirects. To much duplicate info sharded between all comps.... create table separate from spell comp with 3rd column on what that vender sells with a link pointing to the component. Bladedge, I appreciate your prompt reply.
I believe we both have fundamental differences of opinion on what pages should exist in the "item" namespace, and the corresponding "item" category.
What you describe, a single page listing multiple components together because they share some common properties would be a nice page to have, but it doesnt belong in the "item" namespace.
In the Item namespace, one page = one item. This allows for easily associating that item with the appropriate categories.
If all spell components exist on one page, there would be no way to distinguish which elements of the page should be associated with different categories. Only the single page would be injected.
Lets say for example, that Level 1 spell ingredients were available as a reward from a certain quest, you would have no way of distinguishing that information ( and using that to add a category ) if it were all on one page.
I think a solution that would accommodate both of us would be to have the individual pages exist in the item namespace, and have a page living in the main namespace listing all components for reference ( that could be populated using the dpl extension -- aldyron has been doing some good work with that ).
The page listing all components living in main namespace could be referenced either in the category content area, or on each individual component page.
