Valid value?[edit]

I tend to see "None" as a valid value for MM type and not as an issue: rather than "Unknown", "None" would be a known information, and it would mean this monster's entire race/type/kind/whatever was not put in any volume of the MM yet. What do you think? Aldyron (ContribsMessage) 18:51, October 22, 2016 (EDT)

I would agree; "none" is valid and valuable information. I've always changed "collectibles" to "none" rather than just leaving it blank when editing quest pages without any for the same reason. -LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 19:01, October 22, 2016 (EDT)
  • "none" explicitly states that there will never ever ever be a type, which there are some cases of. Blank means that there just isn't one yet, which is the more correct value. ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 20:52, October 22, 2016 (EDT)
    • I disagree with that. "Never" means there will never ever ever be a type. If the devs ever explicitly stated "We will never include Living Spells in an MM", then that would be a good place for "Never". "None" simply means that there isn't one. That can change, and when it does change "None" will get replaced with whatever. But at the moment, there is no MM for it, therefore "none". Blank can mean there isn't one yet, or it can mean that it just hasn't been filled in yet. "How much cash do you have?" "None." Doesn't mean I'll never have any cash; just means that I need to hit an ATM. -LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 01:49, October 23, 2016 (EDT)
      • You're allowed to disagree. It's a lot easier to leave it blank when there isn't a MM type yet from a coding standpoint. It's a consistency issue, not a semantics issue. ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 09:51, October 24, 2016 (EDT)
        • So what's the "consistency issue" if they all (well, all the ones not currently in an MM, that is) have 'none'? And it sounded to me like Aldyron was volunteering to do it (and he's been doing a lot of cleanup on monster pages already), so what's the difficulty issue? I think that explicitly stating that something isn't in an MM is valuable information. Whether that category is called "None" or "Not currently in an MM" or whatever, it's still valuable to know. -LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 01:32, October 27, 2016 (EDT)
          • The consistency issue is that as new ones are added, there is no way to make sure that they all say "none". There will be ones that are blank or don't exist. It's easy to make sure there is nothing there, it's much harder to make sure that there is a specific value. I currently have a script that will go through the category for if it says "none" and set it to blank as-well-as a script that I've been working on to go through all of the monsters and make sure all of the unused parameters that were removed are put back as blank. Once that is done, I can complete my Gadget that will allow people to edit the monsters in a WYSIWYG style system without having to touch the wikitext at all. They'll click edit and there will be drop-downs and checkboxes etc for all the fields. ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 08:23, October 27, 2016 (EDT)
