Questions for Peerless

I'm ready to clear off this page, so anytime you're available, I'm ready for an archiving demonstration/tutorial/whatever. If you don't have time or have a link to someplace that describes it, then let me know and I'll label this revision in the history and just delete most of the content off this page. And secondly, what's a sysop? Is there something they're expected to do? Dedridd 09:40, February 13, 2006 (PST)

I think sysop gives you more permissions in user management, as well as maybe page deletion and such. So that you can take actions if necessary. -- Tihocan 09:59, February 13, 2006 (PST)
Or do more accidental damage? Me good at that!! ;) Seriously though, thanks for the info. Dedridd 10:13, February 13, 2006 (PST)
Hehe, I actually found out more about being sysop: you should be able to edit protected pages, rollback on spammers, delete pages, and do a few other minor things like patrolling. It almost means we trust you for not damaging things ;) -- Tihocan 10:49, February 13, 2006 (PST)
About archival, see here: Policy/Archival - very confusing, but you should be able to figure it out. In the mean time, I will archive discussions I think are dead here. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 12:47, February 15, 2006 (PST)
Thanks, Peerless (Yay for policy pages!). It made sense to me. I'll use that from now on to keep my own talk page under control. Dedridd 13:04, February 15, 2006 (PST)

Tasks note

A note to dedridd on the tasks - I added user ownership to the tasks above - that just involves putting your name (spelled and capatalized perfectly, otherwise it won't work) in parentheticals just like I did above. That way, you can put the tasks on the talk page of the page they refer to, and ANYBODY can see and complete them, not just you - however, with your name on them, you can also see a list of all of your tasks at Special:Tasks. Right? (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 12:26, February 15, 2006 (PST)

So should I move these to the talk pages of the articles they affect, and remove the ownership so others can do them since I won't have access to the game until release? Dedridd 12:35, February 15, 2006 (PST)
No, don't remove the name - that's so we know who added it easily. But yes, move them to the right page. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 12:52, February 15, 2006 (PST)

Questions

I can't get to Peerless' or Tihocan's user talk pages nor the forums, so I hope you guys see this. Is the Search function a known casualty of the move? Sorry if you already know about it, but at this point I don't know what you know (unless there's a task or announcement page somewhere). Dedridd 13:09, February 23, 2006 (EST)

I don't know either. I guess it's known, and one of the many things Peer must have to fix as a consequence of the move. Tihocan 14:26, February 23, 2006 (EST)
If you see anything, tell me. I fixed everything I *KNEW* of within 3 hours of the DNS propagating for me personally so I could. The search seems fine to me, what's wrong with it? (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 19:39, February 23, 2006 (EST)
If for instance I type 'feats' then enter, I get: "No such special page From DDOwiki. You have requested an invalid special page, a list of valid special pages may be found at Special:Specialpages. Return to Home." By the way site news were not working and Dedridd had to temporarily disable them to prevent the main page from being messed up. Tihocan 19:45, February 23, 2006 (EST)
OK, what I need to know:
This works -- Tihocan 20:35, February 23, 2006 (EST)
  • 2. What browser are you on?
Firefox -- Tihocan 20:35, February 23, 2006 (EST)
  • 3. What is the exact url you see that the error is on?
http://en.ddowiki.ws/w/Special:Search?search=testing&go=Go - It looks like the order of the parameters does the difference -- Tihocan 20:35, February 23, 2006 (EST)
  • 4. Do you see the search box to the left?
Yes -- Tihocan 20:35, February 23, 2006 (EST)
Yes -- Tihocan 20:35, February 23, 2006 (EST)
That should help me troubleshoot. (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 19:47, February 23, 2006 (EST)

Ok, here's the answers to your questions (I numbered them above):

    • 1. Yes, that works perfectly. It brings up a Search Results page that says "No page with that title exists. You can create this article. You could also...see what links to this article." It also then has a list of pages that the text is found on. This is exactly what I'm used to seeing when I use the search box on the left (or right, depending on your skin). Note however that there's a background color problem with the top two boxes on this screen. I know it's minor, and I'd fix it, but I don't know where that is.
    • 2. I'm using Firefox 1.0.7. Hmmm, I thought I was using the latest here at home. I think I've got a newer version at work. Maybe I'll try upgrading. It also fails under IE v6.0.2900.2180 sp2.
    • 4. (Out of order on purpose). Yes, I see the search box. That's what I'm using to initiate my searches. I didn't know there was a dedicated search page, so I wanted to be clear on this.
    • 3. The URL is http://en.ddowiki.ws/w/Special:Search?search=Testing&go=Go when I just hit the enter key, as well as when I click the Go button. When I click the Search button, it's slightly different: http://en.ddowiki.ws/w/Special:Search?search=Testing&fulltext=Search. In all 3 cases, it has the exact text as Tihocan listed above. Note that the advertisement bar slides upwards when this is shown and is underneath the search box and the toolbox.
    • 5. Yes, that works fine.

Dedridd 20:43, February 23, 2006 (EST)

Oh, I see the error. The old skin is no longer supported... at all. I made major changes to the back-end to support this new skin - it's not really a skin at all, not even defined in the same way - it is a total system modification. Nothing like yWiki 2.0 will be of course - anyway, I need all members to switch away from the old theme so I can disable it... (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 20:46, February 23, 2006 (EST)
Done. Dedridd 20:48, February 23, 2006 (EST)
Peerless, did you know that the banner at the top of the screen when in edit mode has a background color issue as well that makes it illegible? It's not a big deal to me, I know what it says, but it might be a pain to new wiki contributors. :) Dedridd 20:51, February 23, 2006 (EST)
THAT one I actually knew about - just haven't had time to fix. If your an admin you can: Special:Allmessages - somewhere on there, CTRL + F for it and edit the appropriate message. Please, however, don't mess with anything else there without direct approval. Signing off for now, (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 20:54, February 23, 2006 (EST)
I was able to unprotect it, but not edit it. Must be because I'm a sysop. It was 'talkpagetext', btw. Dedridd 21:03, February 23, 2006 (EST)
OK then. At least the editinterface privilege is working right now... fixing it. But there are 100x more in need to do and can't eeeeeeek! (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 21:07, February 23, 2006 (EST)
