Talk:WHY USE Two weapons?

so even if i use two weapons, only the main hand damage does work. (right?)

why do you use two weapons then?

it drops attack bonus.

why not just use "one weapon with TWF feat" for the proc?

Sorry about the previous page. i didnt erase the <-- --> thing. so my question didn't appear. and i dont know how to edit.

I wanna know why people use two weapons.

I read that only the main hand damage works anyway, even when i use two weapons.

Do I attack twice at a time if I use two weapons? Does Proc system in TWF feat work when I use one weapon?

1st of all, to edit pages, simply hit "edit" link on the top of page contents.

where do i begin with this... well, there are 3 fighting styles, sword and board (SnB), two weapon fighting (TWF) and two handed fighting (THF). SnB is for defensive purpose and can be enhanced by Shield Mastery feats and such. TWF and THF is offensive mode, that you can advance those styles with your tiered feats (Regular/Improved/Greater TWF/THF feat lines). you obviously lose your shield AC, with that cost you increase your DPS.

so how the TWF feats (Regular/Improved/Greater) work? without these feats, your offhand attack does happen 20% of time when you swing your main weapon (your assumption that it doesnt happen is wrong here). these feats increases this percentage to 40/60/80% and also reduces penalty to your attack bonus. so its kinda like you do 1.8 times of attack with full TWF spec.

you're pretty new to the game right? veterans go TWF/THF from lvl1 because with their twink gears, they can kill stuff real fast and thus take less damage. if you are new and are not a barbarian, my advise is to go with SnB at low levels and take it slow, learn how ememis attack (which one hits hard which one doesnt and such). however, your AC wont be great either at high levels, by the time you hit lvl14-15 (Gianthold, Vale of Twilight), your AC becomes near worthless. then you should switch to TWF.

Wow thank you for the quick reply.

about that 20 percent chance off-hand attack.

does it work even when i use only one weapon with a bare off hand?

if it does, additional 20% from TWF feat works with it?

cuz one weapon with TWF feat looks good.

and THF is good for beginners i think.

i couldnt kill anything with SnB.

No. You don't have an off-hand weapon *to* proc, therefore it won't work. The base 20% is for using two weapons without the TWF feat. (The exception is a monk using handwraps - but ONLY a monk) Think of it this way... if you're swinging a sword at somebody, you're rather unlikely to try punching him, unless you're in a movie.

And TWF is horrible for new characters, because of the attack penalty. Even with my new ranger characters, who get TWF for free, I don't even consider using two weapons until L4. That low a level, the extra damage doesn't compensate for the attack penalty. LrdSlvrhnd 00:47, April 7, 2011 (EDT)

thank you all. now im all ready to play a new character.
