Talk:Named Loot Templates?

From DDO wiki

Forums: Index > Help desk > Named Loot Templates?

Hey, sorry to ask, but I'm having a hard time understanding where some of the information is stored for named loot. For example, if you view the page for Tempest's Spine, it shows a list of named loot you can gather in that quest, but when you click on the edit link, none of that stuff appears in the code. I don't understand how that information is viewed on the page, but not in the code. I'm just used to basic old school wiki editing, so if you could help explain it to me, I would appreciate it.

Welcome. Loot is generally transcluded from "Category:<questname> loot", which can be a bit confusing when a template is doing it more or less invisibly. When you click 'edit', you can see a list at the bottom of the page of everything being used, including templates and transcluded pages/categories. That's the best place to look to see where something not on the page itself came from. Tempest's Spine loot

Ahh, I see. Well, that brings me to my next question. Which part of the code on the edit page will forward to the category page of named loot? The reason I'm asking is because I've been trying to figure out a way to fix the page The Crucible to show the named loot from that quest for a couple of days now. If you could tell me how to fix it , or, fix it and tell me how you did it, it might give me a better understanding of how this wiki is properly edited. The way I do is clicking on the edit button, then on preview button. On the bottom of the page, below the edit box, you will see all categories the page have, including the hidden ones. One of them is <quest> loot. Click on it, then edit it.

Ok, well, looking at the page The Crucible loot , it looks like User:Snake may have accidentally broken it in their most recent edit, causing the loot not to list on The Crucible page. I wouldn't want to go in and undo it, as I am sure they had a reason for doing what they did, but perhaps went about it the wrong way. Maybe someone more familiar with the template system can go in and sort it out.

It looks to me like User:Snake removed an outdated listing, pre-U17 stuff (if you ever have a question about how/why someone did something, drop a note on their talk page). I doubt anyone ever updated the Crucible loot page for U17. I just added an example item to the page (Aquatic Bracers) using the transclusion style used for U18 items. The item pages will need noinclude tags added to them as well to support them being used for this.
