Talk:Marut

The confusion was inevitable![edit]

So, something pretty weird regarding this particular monster plus Inevitable, in regards to "The Jungle of Khyber". I've figured out that there are in fact two separate creatures, in game-mechanics, that show up in this quest even though you are supposed to treat it as the same creature story-wise. Throughout most of the quest, the creature is Inevitable, which you can see in its spoken dialogue even though you can't target it, but most conclusively, when you get to the part "The Marut stalks down the hall to your right..." after the second shrine, you CAN target it, although not attack it--and the creature is indeed a yellow-named "ordinary" Inevitable, and (as far as I can tell), has the standard Inevitable CRs; 15 HN, 18 HH, 22 HE just seen so far in "The Jungle of Khyber". However, you never actually fight -this- creature in the quest; once you reach the end of the quest, the creature you fight is not Inevitable, but instead the creature for this talk-page, Marut, with the same CRs (at least in Heroic) as Inevitable, but redname and with a different name. From CRs already listed, it appears the CRs of these two creatures also do diverge on Epic levels.

So, there's a few questions here. One, should Inevitable even be listed as an enemy in "The Jungles of Khyber"? If so, then it should probably have a note put into its page that you don't actually fight it, you fight Marut instead.

Two, on other quests (that I haven't seen yet and probably won't for a while), is Marut yellow-name (or orange) instead of red-name? If so, then as mentioned with Boneshrieker Harrier and Ice Flenser talk pages, I am probably going to split Marut to have two separate entries on the same page.

Marut (singular) is red-named in Killing Time also. Will try to check out the Orchard of the Macabre encounter, and if necessary create a separate Marut entry for those. Nom (ContribsMessage) 09:57, September 26, 2022 (EDT)
