I'm a bit new to wiki-ing and would like to add a gold-roll only cosmetic item.

I saw the cosmetics page and the "edit" option just gave a blank page...permissions or am I just super lost? Tobril (ContribsMessage) 17:33, July 22, 2020 (EDT)

Here are some random tips to get started:

  • Look at an existing item of the same category. For example, if you're adding a cosmetic headwear, check out for example Archon Helm. Edit source and copy it.
  • Next, to create a new page, I usually simply write the exact name of the page into the Search bar on top. For an item, include the "Item:" prefix. For example, use "Item:Shiny Cosmetic" and press Enter. Search results will be displayed, including a link that creates the new page.
  • Paste the copied example into the new page and update everything as needed.
  • In the Page Toolbox on the left, there's a link for Uploading files. Use it (maybe open in a new tab) to upload any graphics that you have. The item description screen shot often works best as a png and picture of a character with the item equipped is often a jpg, but it's not too important. Ideally, name the images as Shiny Cosmetic.png and Shiny Cosmetic shown.jpg.
  • Back on your item page, you can click Preview to see how it worked out, and then remember to save everything.
  • Don't be afraid to save the thing even if it doesn't quite look perfect, other editors can then continue and fix stuff as needed.

Good luck. -- Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 01:40, July 23, 2020 (EDT)

  • Looking at the code of an existing page is a good idea. Some additional tips. Do not use the Uploading file link in the Page Toolbox on the left (or right depending on skin) to upload your item images. Instead, click the Show preview button at the bottom of the page and click on the red links where the images are ([ctrl]-[click] or [middle-click] to open in a new tab) to upload the files and make sure they are saved on the wiki with the correct file name. Please see DDO:File naming policy for more details on that.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 11:21, July 24, 2020 (EDT)
  • If OP copies the code of an existing item, there won't be any red links... just saying.-- Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 14:39, July 24, 2020 (EDT)
