Talk:Confused about certain item categories on the wiki
For example, lets say I want to see a list of all armor piercing items in the game. I go to https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Armor-Piercing_items but it doesnt give me a list, it gives me many sub categories which makes it very hard to see at a glance which items are available.
But if I go to some other item categories, like the Intelligence items : https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Intelligence_items, it will show me a list of all Intelligence items in the game in a nice, easy to read table format.
Is there a particular reason as to why some item categories use a table format while others use multiple sub categories that make it hard to see what items are there? ⇒ Question (Contribs • Message • Email) 09:01, August 29, 2020 (EDT)
- The reason is that those categories used to be populated by NCL (Nice Category Listing) which followed the category structure and listed the pages in all the subcategories. Then, NCL became deprecated and we haven't yet completed a template that has the NCL functionality. The template
{{Category listing}}
(which is used on the armor-piercing category) has the format of what the NCL used to show, but it does not follow the category structure and only displays pages from one or more categories. The template{{Named items category}}
(which is used in the intelligence category), like the Category listing, does not follow the category structure and only displays item pages (not augments or any other type of page) but with much more detail than a simple link.
In order to get the pages from the subcategories, the editors use "%Intelligence % items" which has 2 wildcards to show items from categories like "<Colorful >Intelligence <-15> items". If you wish to have that on the armor-piercing category, edit the page and use{{Category listing|category=%Armor-Piercing - % items}}
or{{Named items category|category=%Armor-Piercing - % items}}
. This is a temporary solution and I'm trying to work on a better solution that follows the category tree. ⇒ Faltout (Contribs • Message • Email) 09:33, August 29, 2020 (EDT)
