Name: Crawben Bix

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Bestows Quest(s): Tower of Frost

Location: The Marketplace, on the western side, standing south of the fountain near the bank

Description: Crawben is the <Landlord> of the Tower. He sends you there, and you return to him at the end to collect your reward.

Marketplace[edit]

Talk to him when the quest is available and he will reply:

  • Crawben Bix: That's it! I'm not waiting another minute. First he stiffs me on the rent, then he pulls this stunt. I'm a patient man - but not that patient!
I rented some property to Theobald the Antiquarian. I know, I know, wizards make lousy tenants. But I thought, hey, this guy's a respected scholar, maybe he'll be different.
Shows what I know. The bum didn't pay the rent this month. When I go to collect, his servants tell be [sic] he's "not to be disturbed." But that's not the half of it! The crackpot has made it snow on his tower - right here in Stormreach. My other tenants have snowdrifts three feet deep in their doorways. In a tropical climate!
    • You: Why are you telling me this?
      • Crawben Bix: You look like you don't take any guff, am I right? Want to help a man who's been wronged and earn some coin along the way? Then find this nut and evict him. I told him that magical spells were strictly against his lease. He doesn't have a legal leg to stand on!
But he's pretty cranky. You know wizards. And he's got a bunch of orcs as servants, they're not gonna let you upstairs to see him. They wouldn't let me in, and it's my property!
You go right on ahead, though. Clearly this fella is up to no good!
      • You: Take me to Theobald's tower and I'll find out what's going on. (Begin Quest)
    • You: And who is Theobald the Antiquarian?
      • Crawben Bix: Some kind of big-shot wizard. He also collects things. He travels all over Xen'drik, brings back rocks and statues and things like that.
He's got quite the ego. He set up his front hall as an exhibition hall so other collector-types can come and ooh and ah over his latest find.
I thought he's be a good tenant because he's hardly ever there. Shows what I know!
        • You: Maybe it's not Theobald? It snows in the Harbor every Risia festival, after all.
      • Crawben Bix: Not in my neighborhood it doesn't! My tenants pay good money to live outside of the Risia manifest zones. They don't want to break their neck on the ice, or dig themselves out of the snow!
Nah, this has gotta be that wizard.

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make him say:

  • Crawben Bix: Where's my money, <Name>> I don't wanna see you again until you collect the rent on Theobald's Tower!
  • You: I'll head back to the tower and get your money.

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

  • Crawben Bix: So you freed Thoebald [sic] and he said he's gonna pay me?
  • Crawben Bix: Likely story. You're too soft, <Name>. I'll track him down tomorrow just to make sure.
  • Crawben Bix: But I guess you made the snow stop, so I should give you something for that ... here you go. A tenant left it behind when he moved out.

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

  • Crawben Bix: I tell you, <Name>, it's hard for an honest landlord to get by in this town. Theobald the Aniquitarian [sic] stiffed me on the rent again. To add insult to injury, he's making it snow all over my property! Can you head to his tower, find him, and collect the rent for me?
