Talk:What are "Retroactive Turbine Points"?

On the Turbine Point page, it mentions "Retroactive Turbine Points based on length of membership." I looked on the DDO website, but I couldn't find any references to this... what does this mean?

I would venture to guess that, prior to going with the F2P/Premium/VIP model with the DDO Store (Module 9, I believe), there were no Turbine points... just a monthly fee that gave you everything, without the ability to purchase various random stuff from the Store. And Retroactive Points were just that - 500 (or whatever) TP for every month you were a member prior to Turbine Points being instituted. However, I didn't actually start playing until well after this point, so this is just a pure guess. LrdSlvrhnd 03:48, June 23, 2011 (EDT)

You were given retroactive TP's for various reasons and they were cumulative. 1) If you had been a previous subscriber to DDO. 2) If you were a current subscriber of DDO. 3) TP's from Favor accrued on your highest favor character on a per server basis 4) If you played the Beta 5) Length of time from when you initially signed up to DDO eg Founders got the most 6) From the 1 month delay when going to F2P. I got around 6000 TP's when it went to F2P from all the retroactive bonuses. UltraMonk 08:10, June 23, 2011 (EDT)

This would seem to strongly imply that such "retroactive" points were a one-time thing (part of the switch to F2P) - perhaps that reference should be removed from the wiki, if that is true?

The retroactive turbine points apply to anybody that comes back to the game at any time. So if a person played when DDO first came out, played for 6 months, stopped playing, then came back to the game in 2012 they would get the retroactive turbine points applied for the reasons I specified above that were applicable. Ah, so it would still apply, but only to someone coming back to DDO (and becoming VIP) who had been a paying member back before DDO went F2P. Since I signed up for DDO after F2P, if I went VIP, I would not get any retroactive points. Thanks for the clarification!

They do not have to become VIP when they come back, they automatically become Premium and get the aforementioned points. However to get the TP's based on favor they have to log into the highest favor character they have on every server for it to be applied. Yes you are correct that if you became VIP you would not get the points because you already have gained them from the favor you have earned, in regards to TP's gained solely from favor. So it is quite possible that there are players out there who originally played DDO, came back and haven't logged into some characters on some servers and thus not getting the TP's from that server's favor till they do so.
