Shoe mentioned transitioning away from using the Template:Post in his post here Talk:Signature shortcut broken?. I'm not opposed to deprecating the template, just wanted to open discussion as to what format would be used instead.

I've actually been saying it for awhile now... For example, I also said it here... Anyways... It was designed a long time ago, even before I started as an editor here and I believe it was intended to be used as a system to make these forums more readable and somewhere along the way got sucked into user talk pages and other discussions as well. This template causes some issues with restricting certain characters and requiring a certain format.

So, what is the alternative you ask? I suggest that we do it the default way simply using colons to indent for most talk pages. For the forums, I would like to see a complete overhaul of that and would love to try using the Liquid Threads Extension. They use it on the MediaWiki main site, and while it isn't exactly perfect, it's got the same style and look as our post template and is much more efficient and functional in my opinion.
