Why wasting another 200k storage space for something as unimportant as a loading screen? BTW: Default size of all loading screens is 1024x768 Corgrind (ContribsMessage) 12:08, April 14, 2022 (EDT)

  • Your system might be using other than DDO default HD value, i.e. 16:9 1280 × 720. That (1024 × 768) you referenced, located in the settings file maybe? Was actually designed for eXtended Graphics Array (256 colours) that's why you might be seeing that value appear... DDO was meant to be targeted at 720p. Even the background images they created within PhotoShop CS6 and prior were set for (1024 × 768) 720p video display. They used (16,7 Million colours and 24 BitsPerPixel) at 72dpi.
The Loading Screen... should be readable (and maybe potentially preserved for prosperity and archiving). You yourself might consider it unimportant; that's you own personal opinion, which you are free to express. In most cases you'll be seeing a smaller predefined size. For example: Preview (or it loading via a quest page) rather than the original itself.
That storage space difference - you mentioned - is negligible for that actual [Screenshot] file itself. Of course I uploaded a completely different Screenshot, it wasn't your old image resized. Because editing and resizing that Screenshot JPEG would have been techincally unsound, e.g. artefacts and lossy compression.
Hopefully that helps explain things better. :-)

  • The 1024x768 comes from the resouce files of the client. Anything else is scaled in a way. Also neither the text parts nor the DDO logo are part of the resource image and are added at display time usually in a readable size. BTW when I make a screenshot it's 2560x1440.
Let's see: There are exactly 2 readable parts in a loading screen - the location name and a tips text. The location is so big, it can be easily read on 800x600. The tips text is randomly added and so far has no context to the loading screen.
Ok, enough nitpicking - On any point of view the original image meets all you criteria above. And so there was no need to upload a new one and wasting storage space.
Apart from that I have no preference for this or that size on a NEW image and can easily follow your proposal to use 1280x720 pixel. Corgrind (ContribsMessage) 11:59, April 18, 2022 (EDT)
