Please leave as is for now Yoko.. I posted a message about it not auto-C:ing on the YouTube widget's creator's page. ShoeMaker 10:51, March 20, 2012 (EDT)
Ok, got it working the way I think it should be.. Use Template:YouTube instead of Widget:YouTube.. Big Grin ShoeMaker 12:04, March 20, 2012 (EDT)
so, what im wondering is, yknow, there are a fair number of articles that contain youtube links on this wiki too. should we start replacing all that with this new function? i know wikia sites do the same thing with <youtube> tag but sometimes its a odd fit to wikipedia-style page layout... yoko5000 02:43, March 21, 2012 (EDT)
Yes, feel free to start replacing any links with {{YouTube|id=#}} Note that there are also height= and width= arguments if you feel that it should display bigger or smaller. You can of course always <div style="float: (right|center|left);"> or any other formating table / css you find appropriate as well for proper display. I would stay away from putting one on the Home page for now (I've thought about putting the intro DDO ad there, but decided to ask Xevo (Contribs • Message) first). Big Grin ShoeMaker 08:33, March 21, 2012 (EDT)

It's good timing as I was actually about to request this function, makes sense for some pages.

I don't think we should do it for all videos though. Just the higher quality ones that contain useful info/footage.

EG:

  • All those dumb videos where spiderwolf zergs a lvl3-8 quest on his lvl16/20 capped sorc don't need to be embedded.
  • But ones that are actually ran at level and designed as a guide should be imo. Think i'll embed my LoB video guide.

Also think we should limit it to 1 video per page. As they can slow down some ppls systems. My current setup has this issue where it auto-plays a video if there are several on a page, even though i have a script set up to disable auto-play.. More of an issue with the auto-hd extension I use then a general one, but others might suffer it too.

Yes, I've anticipated abuse of it and inappropriate content, which is why I was adamant about making sure that all the pages were C:Pages with YouTube videos so that the administrators could monitor them.. ShoeMaker 10:24, March 21, 2012 (EDT)

I dunno we have a lot of admins patrolling everything, i doubt anything inappopriate would stay up long. Plus youtube itself monitors for that, you cant embed content with adult ratings usually.

But yea your template doesnt work for widescreen videos, or anything u wanna set a width/height too. I had to use the widget directly. Can manually cat those pages if u want.

And yea the 720p page is a nice big 720p page, but thats the whole intention.. The default on the main page defaults to 360p in youtubes standard widecreen recommended embed rez, then if u got a high end machine/connection/screen, you can click over to that without having to leave the wiki. You can ofcourse also use the youtube player controls, but some ppl wont understand how to use those or have trouble getting flash to run in fullscreen, so it may be helpful.

Height and Width bug already fixed in template with a max res of 800x600 currently.. Thinking about setting a Min res of 320x240 and the non-set res at 640x480... I'm hoping Xevo (Contribs • Message) finishes his template soon, then I think I can pull the users screen resolution and make sure that it is not bigger than that. ShoeMaker 10:46, March 21, 2012 (EDT)

Dude it's freakin 2012.. We have monitors above VGA rez.. Why the dumb rez limitation?

I get maybe you run at a low rez.. But a lot of us have large monitors capable of high resolutions and dont need tiny things. I just made the HD page as an option you have to willingly click through to get to, its not gona cause any issues.

If the users screen rez is so low, hes not gona click to a 720p HD vid page. If your so worried about that, just put a warning in the link to the page, stop screwing it up. Even if he does, its a simply back button to get back to the low rez embed.

If your so apposed to having hd video on the site, just delete the page. Doesn't make sense to have a 720p page that doesnt display in 720p, its just dishonest to the viewer.

I'm not opposed, and I honestly run at 1920x1440.. However, we have a lot of non-American viewers, and many of them do not have more than 800x600 resolution of which is broken by larger pages.. This is still a new feature on this wiki, please bear with me while I work out all of the bugs. You will be able to have your high resolution shortly.. Big Grin ShoeMaker 10:56, March 21, 2012 (EDT)

It's not really that complicated. You set the template to prevent hd rez.. your trying to force us to use template, thus we cannot.

I see you toying with the code to get HD in a downsampled window, but sorry thats simply not possible, The only way it displays HD by default is if the width and height are set to hd, thus it uses a larger window. Im familiar with youtubes embed code, and it just doesnt support it. The only way to do it is via a firefox/crome extension, which most users simply wont have, thus the seperate page I created.

PS: If your interested in the extension it's called SmartVideo for Youtube.. But it's pretty tricky to get it to work, you need to get an older version, then patch it to let it work on newer versions of firefox.. As the newest version is broken. Then you also need a userscript to prevent autoplay as its built in autoplay options are broken and it always autoplays. Chrome has some better, less buggy and likely up to date extensions.

Theres also lots of userscripts, tho most do not work on embeded code, and cant dynamicly effect the resoultion (only change the url to be &hd=1, which sets it to 720p, but doesnt work for embed.
