Template:Item[edit]

Can you give me a heads up about the template Item, and when should it be used for links, and when not. I noticed that Update 16 named items has links that use the template, e.g. Bastion. Perhaps move this discussion to template talk Item, which is currently some weird redirect (or my talk because yours is way too long). And add info to the template itself... And secondly, what's the status of Item:Shadowmail vs Shadowmail, what should I use? When, why? Thanks!

````Hey not sure where us to puit this I cant respond to the message you sent me...IRC is weird there no like reply or anything. Anyways my questions are as follows
- What's the planned direction for ranged combat in the future? Currently it seems focused on keeping us from moving which IMO is counter intuitive to the ranged combat playstyle (ie. PBS Good Archer focus bad) - Is there ANYTHING new you can tell us about the upcoming enhancements sytem - Why can't my druid bear roar when he's raged? IOW why did you make the bear/wolf form abilities spells its very limiting
Help with Monster Edit[edit]
I'm trying to add the monster information for creatures found in The High Road and can't seem to get the CR info in. There's no listing for it, and yet it shows as: Based on Location. IS there a set code needed for this? Thanks Seekeroflite (ContributionsMessage) 16:34, November 14, 2012 (EST)
Cancel....figured it out. Brush Creeper & Netherese Wizard are done. --Seekeroflite (ContributionsMessage) 16:40, November 14, 2012 (EST)
Template guides[edit]
NPC & Items (been creating some new pages for update 16 stuff), just wondering if there is a set template that I need to follow. I see you changed back the boots edit I did. I looked at about 20 different pages (looked in the edit page to see what it looks like) and tried using them as a guide. Is there a correct way and a not-so correct way? lol
--Seekeroflite (ContributionsMessage) 13:16, November 16, 2012 (EST)
I've been setting up the new U16 items using the brief description, comparison table, and highest level picdesc for the main page, with level linking to the individual item pages. Also, all new items should be in the Item: namespace.
Little busy at the moment finishing up my work day, but I'll detail more when I get home.
Weapon Damage Calculator for DDO[edit]
Hey, I put some effort into constructing a DPS calculator in an .xls. It's completely accurate as best as I can tell from my math. I've made only a few assumptions (rounding down strength after multiplying by 1.5, for example) but my math is easily confirmed by looking at the same weapon in DDO. However, only the Base Damage Rating is provable as the weapon effects are not calculated - which is where this .xls comes in.
The following features are working correctly:
  • Base Damage Rating
    • Number of Dice
    • Dice Sides
    • Critical Percent
    • Critical Multiplier
    • Weapon Modifier
    • Weapon Dice Modifier x[w] (1.5 for GS, 2.0 for Epics, etc.)
The above effects are auto calculated base on selecting the weapon from a list of all DDO weapons. For weapons with non-standard critical rates (SoS comes to mind) there's a section to modify this without affecting the DDO base standard. The reason for this is to allow rapid choice selections and comparison of the same weapon effects with many different weapon types - such as the great Green Steel mystery. :)
  • Bane (Lesser, Normal, Greater)
    • Including increasing the Weapon Modifier (+1/+2/+3)
  • Righteous
  • Seeker
  • Damage Resistance
    • I have not bothered with calculating DR types, only DR/-. It's not worth the effort required to check for DR/magic, DR/Cold Iron, etc. Ultimately, the point is to be able to test DR effects, rather than each type or to bother with comparing against each type or whatnot.
  • Fortification
  • Armor Piercing (fort bypass)
    • Further, this calculation does not affect the Weapon Proc rates based on Critical hits/multipliers while allowing the reduced weapon damage on Undead and other non-crit beasties.
  • Weapon Effects
    • Naturally, the pride, joy, and ultimate focus of this project. Weapon effects are selected via a drop down menu on the cells and the DPS added is calculated and displayed just below the selected effect. I had planned on using a second column and putting this DPS there, but by keeping each weapon on a single column it allows instant, and trouble-free, cloning of the weapon columns to allow free expansion of as many weapons as desired (limited by computer ability, of course). Simple copy/paste or drag expansion for as many weapons as desired - another proud feature. :)
I'm putting the Google Docs link to download this .xls. I was hoping to distribute this via the DDO.wiki but I wanted the approval of this site's administrators before simply adding it to a random page on here. Your post about Dev questions tells me you are actively working the site and are also in communication with the official DDO Admins. I'll post this on the forums, too and hopefully get some feedback for improvements and such.
Anyway, my e-mail is in the .xls; feel free to contact me and let me know what you think about it, too. Thanks, for reading.
Hi. First of all, the link does not work. You need to share the doc. Secondly, I've done something similar here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkemKPJ8lySQdGQ5ZExjWDQ0eEZQRkRqOWF5QzlDTXc#gid=0. I am looking forward to compare features :) --Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 06:20, December 8, 2012 (EST)
I checked out Cru121's Google doc, and it look decent. I was just curious why fort can only be 0% or 100% and nothing in between? Unless imputing a decimal will provide fractional fort (.8 for 80%), but if this is the case, why not just have it input as a number from 0 to 100 (or even more for cases of people with like 150% fort in PvP)?
Sin, I couldn't get into yours to check it out yet.
Update:
http://bit.ly/TLQCOD
Okay, I fixed the sharing permissions. As it turns out, Google Docs can't handle Defined Names on the site so you'll need to download it to see its effect as almost all of the formulas are broken without Defined Names. I intentionally avoided using Visual Basic Macros so as not to trigger the security warning that comes with it and so that people downloading it could make changes/additions without having programming knowledge.
I allow for any value of fortification and I set the cap of the formula to 100% and 0%. This allows one to select, say, 125% fort with 50% armor piercing and have correct results. The cap prevents critical rates exceeding 100% or 0% of their potential. As an example, say you have a critical % of 20%. A creature with 50% fortification effectively reduces the critical rate in half - to 10%, in this case. If you then select piercing at 25%, it reduces the 50% to 25% and the resulting critical hit probability becomes 15% (20% * (1 - 50% + 25%)). Anyway, take a look and play with the values. → Sindarin8 (ContributionsMessage) 04:04, December 8, 2012 (EST)
Okay, so I had a chance to download and check out your calculator... I see you have done a lot of work, however...
  • It is very complex and difficult for people to know what fields can and can't (shouldn't) be changed.
  • There is no scroll down option for....
    • No effect in the effects section.
  • You have it set up so that people can do a 5 weapon side-by-side comparison, I think this is overkill and complicated for a majority of potential users.
    • I would instead create four smaller boxes stacked together on the left side that allows people to input their values.
      • Top left box
        • Their user stats that effect damage
          • Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence
          • Feats mods (Improved critical, improved xx weapon fighting, etc)
          • Attack/damage bonus mods?
        • Allow them to lock this box (Small script with a button that (un)locks the editable fields in the box with a macro)
      • Top right box
        • Opponents known stats
          • You can get most of the raid bosses stats and many miniboss stats from the wiki and create another tab with these stats
          • There can be an option on the bottom of the list for custom mob
            • This option (using a macro) could unlock & un-grey the rest of the box where they can put in:
              • Resistances
              • Immunities
              • Weaknesses
              • DR
              • Fortification
      • Bottom left and right boxes
        • Put in your lists for known weapon stats:
          • Named
          • Common Greensteel
          • Epic Weapons
          • Custom weapons / Random / crafted
    • On the right side of the page you can put the display of how each chosen weapon will preform with their stats against the chosen mob.
    • You could probably even fit 2 more boxes for a third and fourth weapon (or more) under that and they would just have to scroll left and right to see it all.
Other than that, I think you have the beginnings of what could be a VERY powerful tool. If you need any assistance from me on the project, I would be happy to help where I can. Big Grin
Thanks, for checking it out and for your feedback. :) Very much appreciated.
Forum link: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=401031
Maybe I could lock the coded fields. I tried to shade them, but it complained that shading was not compatible with earlier versions so I Bolded the rows with the coded fields.
A "No effect" option? I guess I figured people would know to simply delete the cell contents.. :/ Hrm.. Well, it's simple enough to allow both.
I just had 5 weapons when I last saved it. One could easily copy/delete the columns and have as many/few as they like. :) The point was to specifically allow comparison of many different weapons to see the DPS potential difference. Such as, with/without Keen/Elemental Damage/Elemental Burst/etc. A simplified sheet is certainly possible. Even one that uses the data from the first (or by selection via MATCH) weapon column.
There's already an online page including all that stuff. The StrMod row can easily accept DexMod or IntMod, that's why I named it DamageMod. I suppose that's less clear for every potential person using it. I put comments on each of the rows to help clarify the intent of the row. It's not unreasonable to create a tutorial on how to use it, though. I have screen capture software; if the need arises, I'll put one out. .. maybe after we get it all polished up, though. :)
http://www.afterlifeguild.org/Thott/ddo/
I didn't want to use Macros because that triggers the "Security Warning". Perhaps if this project receives enough endorsement, then that will be less problematic. I was concerned that people would not use it if they see that warning. I'm not really known on here or the forums so I really didn't expect a lot of users downloading it. I could always do that, later, though. Perhaps I can simply lock the cells; but the problem is that if they increase the number of weapons, the lock will not extend out. Maybe I'll just shade the rows, anyway, at hope that people have the proper software to use it. I wanted to keep it .xls rather than .xlsx, though, mostly because I feel it's MS BS to even change it in the first place in an attempt to prevent others from using their extension.
It's easy enough to have pre-filled weapon columns with popular/common weapon stats such as Green Steel and then allow the user to select the Weapon Class (rapier, falchion, etc.) they're interested in. This is also easy enough to do with a tiny VB script to auto-fill data fields, but, again, the security warning. In fact, this whole thing is much easier via VB (custom classes/functions/etc.). :) Ah, well..
I included DR so people could see its effect and better understand the need for bypassing DR; I did not intend to pit a full comparison to raid/red/etc. mobs. I suppose I *could* but that's really beyond the intended scope of this .xls. I really just wanted to help people compare weapons to weapons. Sure, the DR row allows them to check their potential DPS against certain critters' resistances, but that's really just a massive hassle. If you know the critter you're fighting is immune/resistant to fire, then delete the fire weapon effects. Weapons are so varied, that to include a DPS figure for *all* weapon effect permutations is just overwhelming. Plus, each weapon effect states the DPS increase right under it, so one could mentally remove that DPS -- or copy the weapon column and delete it the effect on the new column.
I could easily move this into the VB realm and improve on the cell coding and restoration of lost cell data if accidentally modified - but I just don't see the point. If they mess up a cell, then hit Ctrl+z. The excel formulas work, so converting them to VB doesn't really help. It would have helped in the beginning, but now it's just more work.
As for the specs on named weapons, it would be sufficient to merely have a table of total DPS data for named weapons. Alternatively, I could (and I'd prefer this method) simply add columns for each named weapon I could find. Then, people could merely delete the weapons they don't want/need.
I'm not saying I'm totally against including these options; maybe if more people say they'd like it, too, then I'd be more inclined to accommodate.
I don't really know where this project will go. I really just did it because I was tired of doing it by hand. :)
I had intended this to only compare weapons with each other. I suppose if the community wanted to extend it, then I'm up for that, too.
If folks don't mind macros, then I could easily turn the top row into a "Named/common" weapon list (rather than a simple naming section) and run a VB script to fill in the data based on the selected name (GreenSteelPos3, eSoS, etc.). It seemed simple enough to merely add the columns with the data already included. Maybe alphabetically, even.
I also considered shifting the calculator to a landscape view so as to see the weapons stacked for easier comparison. This would allow all weapons on the same sheet. I don't really know what the best way is. Hopefully, the community will come to that decision. :)
In the meantime; I'll get to work on making a landscape version to see which way people like best. :)
Thanks, again, for your input. :)
I have intended on trying to work up a model of what I was trying to explain above (poorly I might add). I've just been busy all day working on Template:Roman2Dec for other projects... You have a great start, and I would like to make it as cosmetically appealing to use and as user friendly as possible... Perhaps, at that point we could talk to Ague (Contribs • Message) about adding it as a tab on his "YourDDO" project page. I could fairly easily convert it into all of the appropriate PHP/Javascript/HTML as would be required to make it functional. Just a thought. Smile
ShoeMaker (Contributions  IRC) 18:39, December 9, 2012 (EST)
Sounds good. Also, I'm on Skype with the same name as here, Sindarin8.
Agreed, it's not as user friendly as I was hoping. I thought about putting all of the manual entry options in one area at the top or simply hide the auto-calc fields except DPS. I mostly left them to let people see the math as it went on so they could better understand my math. Again, I was not expecting a lot of folks to use it.
Ultimately, a lot of manually entered data is required. I grouped them into similar categories as I see them. I understand not everyone will see it this way, of course, but I was hoping things were clear enough that people could make sense of it all.
RomToDec, ha! I remember doing that. Smile Is that supposed to work here on the Wiki or somewhere else? I believe I still have mine from C++ class, if you like. You write template as if it's for here, but I don't see how it's useful here.
You could just draw up a sketch in paint and e-mail it to me, if you like. My e-mail is in the .xls.
I had considered creating a landscape sheet with the same calculations so people could compare hoards of weapons and I could simply put a bunch of the named ones in there. Although, a table of Named Weapons' DPS is equally sufficient since the weapons are not subject to change. The Table of Green Steel weapons would be fairly extensive, however, so this calculator is better.
I'm going to build the landscape version on a separate sheet - which is, incidentally, why I scoped the defined names to their respective sheet - now, I can use the same code. Smile
I look forward to ironing out a better tool for everyone. Thanks, for the help.→ Sindarin8 (ContributionsMessage) 21:25, December 9, 2012 (EST)
Unyeilding Sentinel : Undying Vanguard.[edit]
Wanted to query this Epic Moment as being listed as still currently broken. I activated this last night on my cleric in eNormal Battle for Eveningstar and it performed as described. I have a screenshot of the 10000 temporary HP. Given that it performed as described, should the comment re currently broken be removed? → RedCastle73 Message
Try it a few more times to confirm that it wasn't a fluke it worked (even Windows works right for awhile sometimes...) If it wasn't a fluke, then feel free to comment out the bug notice part.
Its confirmed. Occurred 3 more times in two different quests. Will update the article. Thx.
