The Pit: 1st Furnace: Encounter 1

A large team of troglodytes waits just inside the entrance to the First Furnace Room. This is a large, difficult battle, but it may be possible to break it up into smaller, more manageable melees. Do this by having the party wait just around the corner from the entrance while one member attempts to pull some of the troglodytes away from the rest.

• The Juibless Apprentice is an Arcane Caster, and may hit you with Melf's Acid Arrow, Lightning Bolt, or Scorching Ray, so Acid, Electricity, and Fire resists will improve survivability. In addition, an Apprentice may cast a Ray of Enfeeblement, reducing your strength, which may slow you, handicap your attacks and lower the damage you do, and reduce your jumping capability. Unless dispelled, the Ray of Enfeeblement lasts 8 minutes when running the quest on Normal.

• The Juibless Warlord is a high level, well armed warrior. Compared to other monsters in this quest, he hits hard and can take a lot of damage before going down. Extra armor or physical damage reduction (such as barkskin or stoneskin), as well as haste and buffs to attack and damage will be improve survivability against this monster.

• All troglodytes have a stench attack. If you fail your save against the stench, you are slowed, making less attacks per round. These stench attacks stack with the Ray of Enfeeblement attack above, so you may be very slowed.
