The Pit: 1st Furnace: Switch to the Shrine

The Path from the star of pipes to reach the switch which opens the shrine.

Once the first furnace is reactivated, you can leave or, if you have good jumper in the party, they can open the door to the chest & shrine below, by continuing higher.

Do this by backtracking to the place the pipes make a star. Stand in the center of the star with the one pipe that goes to the catwalk leading away to your right, and the trapped elemental directly behind you. Between two columns before you, you’ll see two pipes stretching away to the outer wall. You need to get onto the right-hand one of these, which can be done with a fairly moderate jump. Take it until it reaches the wall.

Here, you’ll find the hardest jump in the room, but once past that, it’s a fairly easy hop from there to a catwalk that takes you to a ladder up to a door opening to a little room. In that room is the switch which opens the room containing a chest and a shrine back at the ground level of this chamber.

When you activate the switch, a Large Gray Ooze will drop into the room. There’s nothing of value here, so if you want to run from the ooze & featherfall back to the bottom of the chamber after throwing the switch, there’s absolutely no reason not to.
