The Pit: 1st Furnace: Encounter 2

On the left (higher) catwalk in front of you hides a powerful Troglodyte arcane caster – a Juibless Warlock. He may be accompanied by a less powerful but still formidable arcane caster, a Juibless Apprentice.

Tip: Like all the creatures you’ll encounter in this maze of pipes, these casters can be easily destroyed using ranged attacks, if you can retreat beyond their effective range once they come out of hiding. This may require a feather fall.

If you decide to close with these arcane casters, they may hit you with Melf's Acid Arrow, Lightning Bolt, or Scorching Ray, so Acid, Electricity, and Fire resists will improve survivability. In addition, they may cast a Ray of Enfeeblement, reducing your strength, which will slow you, decrease your attack and damage, and reduce your jumping capability.

Tip: The Juibless Apprentice may not spawn here, instead accompanying a different Juibless Warlock in the next encounter. The Apprentice doesn't always hide, so you may be able to eliminate him using ranged attacks from the floor of the furnace room. Since these troglodytes do not respawn,if the party used ranged weapons to take any of them out upon first entering the room, they will not be encountered now.
