Is targeting still completely borked for this spell? Will it still only fire at 60 degrees below the horizon? I recently used this spell and didn't notice any difficulty in arcing the meteors. --Zt2211 17:29, October 5, 2011 (EDT)

Yea amazingly it has actually been stealth-fixed recently. No release notes about it at all, but it has been greatly improved in many ways:

  • The arcing: Well before it kind of arc'd a bit if you had a hard set target, that was rather nearby. In you manually targeted, it shot downward 60 degrees.. The big issue here was, in any kind of case you actaully wanted to hit something over a small hill or something, they meteors just fizzzled out as the range was almots always too long.
    • This is fixed now as they gave the spell free double range. Though oddly they didnt disable enlarge on it, not sure if that means u can get quad range now, havent tested (who takes enlarge..)
  • It still sort of fires a bit more downward then i'd prefer with manually targetting, more like 30 degrees now. Hard lock targetting works decently for arcing over stuff.
  • How they fixed the other bug (meoters not hitting with quicken): Initialy around a year ago they slowed down the sorcerer version a bit to work like the wiz version which didnt miss much. But they also fixed the animations to work with quicken now too, and it fires pretty nice and fast with quicken on too, without missed hits.
  • Not sure if they slowed down wizard castings too. Think they just equalized em... Not an ideal fix, but it worked.
  • It's still possible to miss hits, but you have to be either aiming at an extremely fast target, or moving and spining pretty widly for it to happen, so its improved enough imo to be considered "fixed".


These fixed along with the fact it works with Force/Laceration on alch weapons makes it actually a rather idea AOE savant spell. I have it on my water savant, who has full force spec and it does pretty sick damage. The only drawback is the non-quicked speed is rather terrible, so in places were mobility is needed (almost everywhere save a few boss fights imo) ottilukes tends to be slightly superior.
I'll update the spell pages with the fixes.

4 Spell Power Types?[edit]

Currently, the description reads: "...The fire portion of the spell is affected by Combustion, the bludgeoning portion by Impulse...". Yet it's been categorized (and officially linked) as Fire, Earth(?!), Bludgeon and Untyped(?). This automatically lists it under those various spell-power pages (i.e. Untyped spells, Earth spells, etc.), which seems misleading if all 4 are not appropriate. So, are all these 4 types accurate, in any way?C-Hound (ContribsMessage) 14:47, July 29, 2017 (EDT)

  • I have not tested Meteor Swarm extensively but apparently someone has. It is affected by two spell powers, Combustion and Impulse. The spell does have multiple descriptors, which tell us how this spell interacts with other abilities in game. As far as I can tell from the contents of the article, all four descriptors seem appropriate. --Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 15:24, July 29, 2017 (EDT)
