Meteor Swarm
| Name: | Meteor Swarm |
|---|---|
| School: | Evocation (Fire spells) (Earth spells) (Bludgeoning spells) (Untyped spells) |
| Level: | Sor/Wiz 9 |
| Spell Point Cost: | 40 |
| Components: | VerbalVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. This has no gameplay applications in DDO, as all characters can always speak and there are no effects which prevent you from doing so., SomaticSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations. |

| Description:
Causes four 2-foot-diameter chunks of rock to spring forth and streak in straight lines toward a target, leaving fiery trails of sparks. The meteors explode on impact, dealing 6d3+18 points of fire damage (a successful Reflex save reduces the fire damage by half) and 2d3+6 points of bludgeoning damage (no save) to targets in the area. This spell has double range. Notes: If a meteor misses its target, it simply explodes at the nearest corner of the target’s space. If a creature is within the area of more than one meteor, it must save separately against each. (Fire resistance applies to each sphere’s damage individually.) Range: Unlike most other projectile spells, the caster can arc these meteors over small objects if they have no target selected (they also arc slightly with a target selected). In practice this works somewhat, but is can be difficult to accurately target as the meteors tend to spread out over longer distances in a fairly non-ideal pattern. The spell now has free double range, so arcing it over very long distances can work in some scenarios, but not all. It also oddly still allows enlarge, which may allow for extremely long distance casting. The affected AOE range of each meteor is large but not the largest, similar to the Fireball AOE, but smaller then Delayed Blast Fireball. Spell Power: The fire portion of the spell is affected by Combustion, the bludgeoning portion by Impulse. Critical chance for both portions is affected by Fire lore; Kinetic lore items do not affect it. Discussions: [1], [2] Elemental Savant: Although this spell is tagged as an earth and fire spell and thus technically affected by both earth savant and fire savant pre's. In practice, this has no major effect for any savant because the spell does not scale with caster level. Fire Savants can benefit from the fire resistance bypass however. On the opposite end, Water and Air Savants can also make full use of this spell, because even cast at CL11, it still deals the same damage. |
