Templating pages help[edit]

I noticed that you are going through and templating a lot of things, which is great... Only thing I am noticing is that you are doing it all manually, as you have not seemed to have noticed the big button section just below the edit box and [Save page] [Show preview] [Show changes] Cancel | Editing help (opens in new window) that looks like... (*Note: By placing a reference to what the edit box at the bottom looks like here, the wiki may have trouble creating a second instance of it at the bottom of the page, you may check out this instance on this page. It should still be working correctly on every other page.)

{{:Mediawiki:Edittools}} Transclusion removed, remove nowiki tags to retransclude it... I just don't see any reason for it to continue to be transcluded at this point.

See the drop down text box where it says "Click here for more options!"? If you click on that box and scroll down, you will see the options of:

  • Post Template
    • This section is great for when you are working on a talk / discussion page
    • It has a description of proper use of Template:Post at the top
    • It has quick insert buttons for characters that do not work correctly inside this template (|, =, <, >)
    • It has a section to remember how to link to Category and File pages and the layout for the User template to be able to use those easier
    • It has quick insert buttons for Special:ActiveUsers, DDO wiki:Ddowikivip, DDO wiki:Administrators and Template:IRC which are handy for welcome pages.
    • It also has a section at the bottom to make it a little easier to use the Face template.
  • Bind Template
    • Quick insert buttons for the entire template from {{Bind| right through step-by-step to the closing }}
  • Enhancement Templates - simple -
  • Enhancement Templates - one variable -
  • Enhancement Templates - two variables -
  • Enhancement Templates - more variables -
  • Help improve templates
    • This section is a set of quick insert buttons to help you properly mark pages as needing more attention from other members
    • Includes [[Category:Needs Info-Box Pic]]<!-- Reason: -->
      • Allows you to mark a page with a screenshot of the item description as outdated or poor quality and in need of replacement.
    • {{Help improve}} {{Wikify}} {{Update}} {{History|
  • ... Less important stuff....

I hope this makes some of your editing easier! Big Grin

Heh, thanks. I'd seen the templates at the bottom but for quick changes it seemed easier to just type them. Does it make a difference either way? I realise may capitalisation might not be the same...
To be honest most of the work I'm doing is to make my own life easier when I run an export Red Faced. The templates are really helpful for getting consistent data. Do you mind me filling them in en mass like that?

I don't care how you do it really, once I am done with a couple of my other major projects, I plan on running AWB semi-bot to go through and clean up all item enhancements to use the appropriate template (as well as a few more templates I have to make still). Have fun. Big Grin

Looks pretty good to me. Leave it in your talk page space for now, and I'll move it to Template:Tempspellamp later. I'm also going to move Template:SpellPower to Template:Permspellamp and change /create buttons sets for them on Mediawiki:Edittools. Good job. Big Grin

Thanks. I hope I'm not treading on your toes with this. I just wanted to understand how the templates worked and figured the best way to learn was to set one up.
I just need to fix the bolding of the text. I've probably put something in the wrong order somewhere. Yskuma (ContributionsMessage) 08:48, August 23, 2012 (EDT)
I have pretty big feet, so I am used to my toes being stepped on AND it doesn't hurt a bit. Wink -- Bolding of text is done with three ' characters like '''This is bold text''' would produce This is bold text.
ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:18, August 23, 2012 (EDT)
Hmmm, I tried that and it didn't take. Could it be because of the switch? I've ended up putting it inside the switch statement and that seems to work. Odd.
I'm just putting an exception in for Impact so it doesn't end up pointing at the disambiguation page, after that I'm done. Smile Yskuma (ContributionsMessage) 10:23, August 23, 2012 (EDT)
Right, I think I'm done. I'll stop spamming the recent changes list now... Red Faced Yskuma (ContributionsMessage) 10:42, August 23, 2012 (EDT)
