Talk:Twitching and crit confirm?

I was tinkering with twitching but it seems to trigger the movement penalty to attack. Am I moving too much or what is the trick here? Is it only for melee (I was trying it with a rouge)?

Also, One of my toons was looking at enhancements and my question is with critical confirm. Do all critical hits require a x of 100 or gets rooled normal? Is that worth it? It seems that increasing the crit roll is nice but if confirm is only adding small percentage... seems like playing bad odds to me. What am I missing??

Thanks→ Comftblynumb 11:33, December 3, 2011 (EST)

What do you mean "x of 100"? You roll a 20, then you roll another 20 to confirm.. 5% chance of rolling a 20, .25% chance of rolling 2 20's.. With improved crit, Seeker etc, you roll your d20 --> get a 20 then roll another d20 and add your Seeker/ imp crit feats to it. so you may only have to roll a 10 or better on the confirm roll. iirc.. Gah, I thought I replied to this last night... I *know* I typed a bunch of stuff out!

To clarify, to crit, you make two rolls on a d20. If you get within your weapon's critical threat range (19-20 on a longsword, for instance) on your first (attack) roll, you make a second (confirmation) roll. If you roll what would be a successful attack, you succeed on a critical hit. For instance, if an attack would succeed on a 10, you would need to roll a 19 or a 20 to threaten, and then a 10 or higher to successfully critically hit. Weapons have different threat ranges, and certain enchantments (keen or impact), feats (Improved Critical: Thrown/ranged/piercing/bludgeon/slashing), and possibly enhancements will extend this range. You'd really only have a 0.25% chance of critting if you're only successfully hitting on a 20 anyway, and if that's the case, you probably have bigger issues *g*

Fighter Critical Accuracy (and item enchantments such as Seeker) will add to your second confirmation roll, thus lowering the target by that amount. Critical Accuracy I would let you succeed on an 8 instead of a 10 in the previous example, for instance. If you're already successfully hitting on a 2, this won't really help any... but it can make a big difference if you're hitting on a 10. Also, the weapon itself makes a huge difference - a keen scimitar will threaten 30% of the time, whereas a battleaxe would only threaten 5% of the time. Either way, Critical Accuracy & Seeker would both significantly improve your odds of turning a threat into a critical hit, so it would certainly be worthwhile to at least get the first level or two.

As for twitching... any kind of movement (other than jumping straight up and down) will give you a -4 attack penalty for both melee and ranged; there's no minimum distance before it triggers. You would need Spring Attack to negate the penalty for melee, and Shot on the Run for ranged. There's no real benefit for twitching that I can think of (on the other hand, side-stepping back and forth a couple of feet can help immeasurably to avoid ranged attacks if you get the timing right. And if you wait half a tick before firing, your penalty will disappear. So sidestep, wait, fire, sidestep, wait, fire - if you get the timing down, you'll avoid most incoming ranged attacks entirely, because they'll have fired where you *were*, for just a slight slowdown of attack)→ LrdSlvrhnd 18:42, December 4, 2011 (EST)

You did reply last night, or early this morning I think it technically was as far as the server was concerned.. The server crashed and Xevo (Contribs • Message) had to restore from yesterdays backup. Eeeek! ShoeMaker 18:48, December 4, 2011 (EST)
Ah, thanks, I figured it was my own screw-up - I know if I let a page sit for too long without actually saving or previewing anything (happens a lot when I'm doing a serious edit of a quest page), I'll save it, get an error message, and then have to save it again - I just figured the same thing happened here, 'cept I didn't see an error message to re-save *g* LrdSlvrhnd 18:52, December 4, 2011 (EST)

Thanks for the info!! good to know confirm is the same as hit chance. Comftblynumb 18:58, December 6, 2011 (EST)
