Okay, my understanding is there might be some misunderstanding about updating spelllore items to use one template or another. Can I get filled in on exactly what's being updated, why it's being updated, what templates are involved, and what game change led to this (I've been out of the loop almost a year now, so please assume I know nothing and catch me up). Thanks!

About 30 pages exist that have outdated images that need to be updated on the wiki ( regarding spell lore item enhancement ).
As an indicator that the image needed to be updated, the pages were left with a broken transclusion of the spelllore template.
I did a pass through of these pages to fix the broken transclusions by referencing a different template ( not knowing the pages were left broken on purpose ).
After clearing up with Bladedge what I feel is a better solution ( add tag to each page indicating pic update required ), and fixing the transclusion of the spelllore template, I'm happy that the pages are no longer in what I feel is a "broken" state.
"broken state" being defined more clearly as 1) indicidating to the visitor that the spelllore template needs to be updated and 2) Adding the page to the "# lore items" category.

Actually, I believe there is an outstanding issue of exactly how to indicate to visitors that the page is in need of an image update.
Currently, the chosen method is to *not* indicate directly to visitors, and to include a hidden category "Needs Info-Box Pic".
I prefer the Update template, but the template does not give much detail as to what aspect of the page needs updating.
A new Update template to indicate the image is out of date may be in order.

  • Can you give me a list of these pages so I can see what is going on? How has spelllore changed (don't forget I've not been in game in almost a year)? Thanks ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 18:10, January 3, 2014 (EST)
Update 14 ( I believe ) changed item effect property from “(magnitude) (element) Lore” to “(element) (magnitude) Lore”. Example : Major Ice Lore became Ice Lore V.
Along with some changes to the actual value and description of what that effect did.
The “spelllore” template was overhauled https://ddowiki.com/index.php?title=Template:Spelllore&direction=next&oldid=170584 to account for the change, ( order of parameters was flipped, old values that were allowed prior were removed / treated as erroneous ) but not all pages that transcluded that template were updated to match.
This caused any pages that used the original format to give display text reading that the template was called with an Invalid Entry, and caused category injection of strange categories like "3 Lore items”.
Example of page with a broken call to spelllore https://ddowiki.com/index.php?title=Item:Scepter_of_Healing&oldid=182158
