Buckler - is it worthless?[edit]

If anyone knows any in-game benefit to the buckler that would justify it's outrageous cost compared to the other light shields (like, does it perhaps not require the shield proficiency?), please fill that detail in. If I didn't have the screen shots to prove it, I'd think the data was wrong. Dedridd 10:40, February 13, 2006 (PST)

In PnP DnD you could wear a buckler and still use a bow. You also still had use of the hand but I think for attacking with an offhand weapon and a buckler it makes it extra difficult. -- koolkat 11:23, February 13, 2006 (PST)
Thanks. If I still have access to the game tonight, I'll buy one and try out those scenarios and look for penalties in my modifiers to see if Turbine put that in the game. Dedridd 11:37, February 13, 2006 (PST)
No more access 'til release, so I'll put it here as a task in case someone else can take care of it. Dedridd 13:33, February 15, 2006 (PST)
2 points to invetsigate - 1) The penalty may be 0 as per PnP in which case non proficient use isn't penalised, 2) It's probably usuable with 2H weapons which the rest aren't. --Stormkahn 03:40, February 16, 2006 (PST)
Bucklers are awesome - no way you are allowed to say it is useless!!! lol (post by Peerless - see his talk and contribs.) 09:41, February 16, 2006 (PST)
Checked it yesterday. You can't use bucklers with 2H-weapons or with bows/crossbows. The DnD rules say you can (with a -1 penalty to attacks). DnD price is 15gp. IMO the buckler is bugged. The price should be lower and it should work with 2H weapons. We should look up the boards (ddo.com, ddo-europe.com) if there is anything mentioned.--Ziu 22:12, February 16, 2006 (PST)
Thank you for checking out using it with 2h & ranged weapons. However, can someone - like a rogue - who doesn't have shield proficiency use a buckler without penalty in DDO? I know what the DnD rules say, but what I need to know is what it's role is in DDO. Dedridd 13:28, February 18, 2006 (PST)
