So unless I'm misreading something, you can buy Improved Crit (Ranged) and Improved Crit (Piercing) and they both apply to bows. My question is do they stack?

no. Improved Critical: Piercing is just for piercing melee weapons such as picks, rapiers, and shortswords.

I think the difference is in that Bows are Ranged weapon-type that do Piercing damage-type. The Improved Critical applies to the weapon type, not to the damage type. My 2-cents is that this has confused me forever as well, and I am sure that many people make wasteful feat choices because of the overlapped use of Piercing for both weapon type and damage type.

Critical bonuses[edit]

Critical bonuses never stack, in DDO and in pen and paper. Unless I am missing something
