Smiting
From DDO wiki
Smiting is a powerful weapon enhancement that may cause the death of a construct on a Vorpal Strike.
[edit] Smiting
Effect:
Constructs suffer 4d6 additional damage per hit with a 100HP bane damage bonus on confirmed vorpal strikes if the construct has 1,000 or more current HP (or is immune to instant death, such as the red-/purple-named bosses such as the Portals in The Shroud), else a vorpal strike will kill it outright.
Over-all, this yields the average of four six-sided die plus a one in twenty chance for 100 damage = (4 * ((1+2+3+4+5+6)/6)) + (100 * (1/20)) = 19 damage on average (not counting instant death).
Additionally, smiting weapons have an undocumented +2 enhancement bonus against constructs, much like a Construct Bane weapon [1].
[edit] Additional information
- Smiting is an effective Shroud Portal beating enhancement
- Smiting is also very effective for beating down training dummies. After the first time it is destroyed on each new instance of an airship, the dummy remains in a "helpless" state and takes +50% damage (from Smiting, averaging 6d6 extra per hit and 150 damage on vorpal hits).
- The Mace of Smiting lists the older effect, but uses the new version.
- The Sovereign Rune of Smiting on Dragontouched armor uses the older effect instead: any critical hit on a construct forces the target to make a DC 23 Fortitude save or die. This effect stacks with the new smiting.
