Korthos Village[edit]
If you have not talked to your Class Trainer, you are a Druid or Artificer, or if there is no quest available in the Korthos tutorial quest series:
- Kursemy Jerwell: The path of magic is dangerous, but the rewards are great. Are you up to the challenge of being a wizard?
- You: Spend action points on enhancements.
- You: Advance to the next level as a wizard.
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if you have no Wizard levels) Are you certain that you wish to multiclass into the wizard class? If you are currently on a path, you will leave it by doing so.
- You: Yes, I still wish to train with you.
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if your intelligence is less than 19) I must warn you that your intelligence is too low to cast the highest level wizard spells. You need an intelligence of at least 19 to cast 9th level wizard spells, though you do have some time until it becomes an issue. Do you still wish to train?
- You: No, you are right. I will choose another class. (ends conversation)
- You: Yes, I still wish to train with you.
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if you don't have enough XP to level up and have at least one Wizard level) You do not have enough experience to advance.
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if you have enough XP to level up and have at least one Wizard level) (open Advancement UI)
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if you have no Wizard levels) Are you certain that you wish to multiclass into the wizard class? If you are currently on a path, you will leave it by doing so.
- You: Reset your enhancements.
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if you have no Wizard levels) You ask a wizard to train you when you have no knowledge of our ways? Find one of your own class to train you in your benefits, for I cannot.
- Kursemy Jerwell: (if you have at least one Wizard level) You can reset your enhancements in any public area by opening up your Enhancement Panel (Ctrl-R) and choose to Reset Tree or Reset All Trees.
- You: Ask for Wizard advice.
- Kursemy Jerwell: Wizards are the true masters of arcane magic. They can learn a wider variety of spells than anyone else, allowing them to smite the enemy, protect themselves and their allies, and deal with mundane tasks such as detecting secret doors. What else do you want to know?
- You: What sort of armor should a wizard wear?
- Kursemy Jerwell: Wizards avoid armor and wear only robes, since an arcane spellcaster needs to be able to move freely in order to cast spells. Instead use the Mage Armor spell to protect yourself from harm.
- You: What sort of weapons should a wizard use? (see below)
- You: Tell me about spell components. (see below)
- You: What should wizards do with scrolls containing wizard spells? (see below)
- You: I would like to train now. (see "The path of magic is..." above)

- You: What sort of weapons should a wizard use?
- Kursemy Jerwell: Wizards can use certain simple weapons, such as daggers and clubs. The quarterstaff is the wizard's traditional choice for melee, and a light crossbow can be useful for ranged combat. Remember, though, that spells are a wizard's best weapon. Burning hands or a summoned monster will do far more damage than your quarterstaff!

- You: Tell me about spell components.
- Kursemy Jerwell: As a wizard you require spell components to cast some of your spells. Pinches of Fine Sand are used as the spell component for certain early spells such as Summon Monster. Components are consumed when you cast spells that require them, so don't forget to stock up on spell components at a shop before heading out on an adventure. Note, though, that some spells such as Magic Missile do not require spell components at all!
- You: What should wizards do with scrolls containing wizard spells?
- Kursemy Jerwell: If you find a scroll containing a wizard spell of the appropriate level you can Inscribe that spell into your spellbook to learn it permanently. To Inscribe a spell you must first buy spell inscription materials. These can be purchased from vendors in Stormreach who sell arcane materials.
