Love the wiki -- it is my Go-To site for info. Don't mind the ads that now appear on the left side of each screen. However, the size of the ads are about a quarter of an inch wider than the left-side navigation box, thus covering wiki text. Some ads can be dismissed, which is fine. But many cannot, preventing reading of the covered text. Hoping someone can address (perhaps make the left navigation pane wider to accommodate the ad?). Thanks. [Apologies if this isn't the proper place to note this -- wasn't able to find anyplace more pertinent.] ~ 12.204.168.28 12:47, August 7, 2015 (EDT)
- Hello there. As a registered editor, I don't see the ad banners at all. I tried logging out to see what you were talking about, and saw no overlap. Can you send me a screenshot? Also, can you tell me what it says your user agent string and screen resolution are for your system where you see the issue, so I can try and replicate the issue to be able to fix it? Thanks! - Thanks for letting us know. Someone reported this on May 4, 2020 as well in DM to me on Discord. I let the system host, Xevo, who's in charge of this know in our Discord chat server server:

@Xevo#1177 I got a DM last night with this picture. It seems the ad banner is showing up in the middle of the screen and blocking the content. Can you please look into this? Thanks.

It is hard to fix the auto ads because it is hard to reproduce. I think it might have something to do with the width of the browser. Google seems to base their auto ad placement on a less wide page. If I cant figure out why it is happening I will disable auto ads. Unfortunately google really pushes those ad types now and doesnt pay out much without turning them on. As long as the ads make enough to pay for the server I am fine with them off though. |

I've installed the new edge myself, which uses a chrome engine, so I don't seem to be able to reproduce it either |

"On Edge, the adds were banners across the middle of the screen covering up text (and if you pressed the collapse button there add was replaces by a white box where the add used to be still covering up text). On chrome, there were banners across the screen but they pushed text down so nothing got covered up. On firefox no adds.
That was this past this weekend. Today it is better. Full sized on edge the adds dont cover text, but if you shrink the window they do." |
