A potion is a magic liquid that produces its effect when imbibed. In the D&D 3.5 (PnP version), potions can duplicate the effect of a spell of up to 3rd level. Similar restriction applies in general to DDO. Higher level spell effects are usually available only during special events, as a reward for turning in rare ingredients, or from the DDO Store.

  • Consumable: Potions are consumables, i.e. they can be used only once. Exception: Rare artifacts called Eternal flasks refill magically after a cooldown.
  • Minimum level: Potion use is generally not restricted by a minimum level requirement. Some non-store healing elixirs and spell point elixirs have higher minimum level.
  • Caster level: In alignment with PnP rules, the caster level of the potion is generally the lowest level at which a caster could cast the spell. Higher caster level variants might be available during special events, as a reward for turning in rare ingredients, or from the DDO Store. Artificers receive a bonus to caster level of potions they consume thanks to their class feat Artificer Knowledge.
