Tips and Misc

• The Traveler is right at the start of this quest, disguised as a halfling. He seems to have figured out what's going on long before you.
• The Hidden Hand have gotten their hands on the five remaining Eyes – those of Risia, Dolurrh, Thelanis, Syrania and Xoriat. You're going in to pinch them.
• The eyes of Syrania and Xoriat have been taken to the cult's inner headquarters. However, to get in, you'll need to show the Shield Guardian the other three eyes.
• The Eye of Dolurrh has summoned a Marut, which refuses to grant the Eye to anyone who does not understand the workings of the plane. You can make the fight easier, or even skip it, by obtaining spirit points – the first five will remove Will-o'-Wisps from the battle, and six will allow you to take the eye without a fight. There are several ways to gain spirit points:
  • The spirit at the entrance grants one for free.
  • The woman at the end of the entrance corridor will grant one point for free, or two on a successful Spot check. Failing the check, however, loses you a point. (Heroic R1 DC: ≤39)
  • The soldier spirit works in much the same way, except with a Concentration check, and there is no free option. (Heroic R1 DC: [45<DC<30])
  • The spirit sitting on a crate grants a free point, but only if you have a philosophical conversation with her first. Make sure to choose the peaceful and supportive option each time for best results.
  • The hunter spirit is worried that he cannot see his god, Balinor. You can attempt to explain how Dolurrh works to him – for this, you need either a good Wisdom or a few ranks in Religious Lore (granted by levels in Cleric, Favored Soul or Paladin.) Fail, however, and you lose a point.
  • Any humanoid enemy slain in the Dolurrh room summons a Spectre. This does not appear to trigger off player deaths.
• The Eye of Risia, which you might recognise from Tower of Frost, is up to its old tricks – its room is full of slippery ice, and it's summoned several Frost Giants. There are also several sets of air jets, making grabbing it a pain.
• The Eye of Thelanis has flooded its room, and also summoned some Kelpies and Dryads. You'll need to switch between swimming and hopping between platforms to get to its storage chamber.
  • The red-named Eladrin witch Venda Hexweaver is behind a closed door near the end of this section.
• Once inside the inner headquarters, you reach a room containing a Chaos Beholder and the two remaining eyes, as well as a surprise guest – your patron, Mr Vance Sattler. Vance is, of course, Vecna. (Come on, he's a wealthy buyer who's mysteriously appeared out of nowhere, he's obsessed with collecting things, and his first name is literally an anagram of Vecna – who did you think he was going to be?)
  • "Vance" has somehow got his hands on the Eyes of Syrania (last seen being returned to its home plane by Angels) and Xoriat (so far the only Eye we've never seen in action, although presumably it was used to summon the Beholder.)
• Vecna steals your collected eyes and disappears, setting the Beholder on you. As a Chaos Beholder, Thirteen has no anti-magic cone, although he does have a set of special attacks, some unique to him – see his page for details.
• Once Thirteen is dead, the nearby end chest unlocks and the quest ends. Your mission is completed – but at what cost?
• There are five notes:
  • One in the entrance lobby.
  • One on a desk in the Dolurrh room.
  • One at the end of a corridor in the Thelanis zone.
  • One in the Hidden Hand camp outside the inner headquarters.
  • One in a room in the inner headquarters.
• The enemy group in front of the room with the Door Guardian respawns regularly. If you're after a Conquest bonus, you'll need to kill this group a few times to get enough total kills – if possible, leave a self-sufficient member in the doorway while the rest of the party does the Thelanis area. (Be aware one of the possible spawn setups for enemies in this position includes an orange-named Hidden Hand Bonewarden, which is significantly tougher than the other Hidden Hand goons.)
• One of the four secret chests containing Dust of Vile Darkness is in this quest, in the room north of the final shrine. Note that a character must have Steps' Lenses of Seein' Hidden Hand Secrets equipped to loot the chest. This chest drops heroic and legendary Golden dust.
