If you try to talk to him while at level 1, he will reply:
- Niles Cage: My friend, can ye not see my ship be sinking? I have to see to saving my crew from drowning.
- Niles Cage: Come back once you've earned some experience, and perhaps you can help old Captain Cage!
If you are at level 2 or higher, however, he will reply:
- Niles Cage: Ho there, <???/lady>! My name be Niles Cage—Captain Cage to my mates. The Coin Lords themselves commanded me to sink the BomBom Raider. Alas, the tables were turned - half my crew are captured, and now my ship is a wreck.
- Niles Cage: But I know where Captain Yaaryar likes to dock the BomBom fer repairs. I beg ye, help me! Go to Irestone Inlet and rescue me First Mate, Stained-Tusk, and the rest o' me captured crew. Then get my revenge, destroy the BomBom!
- You: I'll do it. Let's go to Irestone Inlet now. (Bestow quest)
- You: Why do the Coin Lords want the BomBom destroyed?
- Niles Cage: The BomBom be a Droaam ship.
- Niles Cage: Never hear o' Droaam? That's a new kingdom in Khorvaire, risen out of the Last War.
- Niles Cage: Now, ye might ask yerself what a khorvaire nation has to do with Stormreach. And I did ask the Coin Lords. Turns out Droaam is plotting to colonize Stormreach, seeing as how it has no room to expand in Khorvaire.
- Niles Cage: The BomBom be a scout ship, sent to probe Stormreach's weaknesses. The Coin Lords are afraid it'll lead to an invasion, a blockade, or somesuch. So they want it sunk.
- You: All right then. Let's go to Irestone Inlet, rescue your crew, and destroy the BomBom. (Bestow quest)
- You: I'm sorry about your ship.
- Niles Cage: As ye can see, my ship only barely managed to reach the harbor before she sank. So now I be a captain in name only.
- Niles Cage: The Banshee was a fine soarwood sloop, crafted on the shores of Aerenal and won by myself in a card game some fifteen years ago. Never did she fail to catch and hold the winds!
- Niles Cage: But now she's a skeleton beneath the waves, burned and shattered, and I've naught but her memory to bear me up....
- Niles Cage: I want vengeance, I say! Vengeance against the BomBom and its treacherous captain, Yaaryar!
- You: All right then. Let's go to Irestone Inlet, rescue your crew, and destroy the BomBom. (Bestow quest)
- You: tell me the full story of what happened.
- Niles Cage: Very good!
- Niles Cage: My crew and I are rarely driven from battle. But our fair tides turned, we ran afoul of a fell crew indeed! Aye, 'twas a Droaam crew monstrous and foul, such as ye hear tell of in sailors' haunts. And their ship was the nemesis of my beloved vessel, the Banshee.
- Niles Cage: The bilge-scum who beat us were hobgoblins, bugbears, hounds and kobolds. kobolds, says I! They sailed under Yaaryar, a scurvy scalawag what's been a scourge along our shores for years. But never before was I forced to run from Yaaryar's lot. Not before his crew wielded the mage fire! And I could not 'scape their pursuit, for they knew the channels better than my best navigator. Fell beasts indeed!
- Niles Cage: The ship that did us in was the Bombom Raider. She's crafted of soarwood like my own lost love, but stronger and better-armed, I'm sad to say. As the Banshee foundered and sank, most of my crew was scooped up by the Bombom. My first-mate Stained-Tusk slipped from my grasp, and I know not whether he drowned or was taken by our foes. Ah, the pain of it!
- Niles Cage: I'll have no better luck fighting Yaaryar's thugs the second time, not alone. Dare ye travel to Irestone Inlet? Dare ye seek out my unlucky crew? Find them, I beg ye. Find Stained-Tusk and the rest of them. Bring those good sailors back to Stormreach if ye can—and even if ye cannot, bring justice to Yaaryar and his crew! What do you say?
- You: All right then. Let's go to Irestone Inlet, rescue your crew, and destroy the BomBom. (Bestow quest)
Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make him say:
- Niles Cage: ????????????????
On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:
- Niles Cage: The crewmen ye rescued have already told me the tale of your victory!
- Niles Cage: So ye cornered that scurvy Yaaryar and gave him the justice of the seas, did ye? 'Twas a great deed, and one I'll not soon forget.
- You: Thank you. May you win another ship and sail the seas once more, Captain.
After completing the quest and take the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:
- Niles Cage: My ship may be gone, but ever will the tales of the banshee and her crew live within my mind. Alas, all I have left are those memories! Perhaps one day I will find another ship, and then shall I sail the wind-tides once more.
