Special:
Components: VerbalIcon tooltip.pngVerbal: A verbal component is a spoken incantation. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot act or speak. Certain rare spells, such as Silence Creature, may temporarily disable spells that require verbal components., SomaticIcon tooltip.pngSomatic: A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You cannot cast spells that require this component if you cannot move causing arcane spell failure resulting in a ruined spell. Spells without a somatic component may be used with disregard to Arcane Spell Failure chance. Note - that characters make the same arm gestures for most spells in DDO, so you can't tell which spells require this component by watching your character's animations., MaterialIcon tooltip.pngMaterial: A material component is one or more physical substances or objects that are annihilated by the spell energies in the casting process. You must have the required items in your inventory. If you run out of the components, the game will not allow you to cast the spell and will instead inform you of what component is missing. The metamagic feat Eschew Materials and some enhancements in Draconic Incarnation can remove this restriction. , FocusIcon tooltip.pngFocus: A focus component is a prop of some sort. Unlike a material component, a focus is not consumed when the spell is cast and can be reused. This has no gameplay applications in DDO, as all characters are always considered to be carrying a focus component at all times and it does not require a inventory slot.

Description

Grants the ability to breathe water to you and your allies.

Notes:

  • This spell does not prevent targets from breathing air.
  • It is not recommended for spellcaster classes to select this as a Spell option, particularly a spellslot-starved Warlock. The consumable options like the Potions are easy to obtain, easy to afford, and if the effect runs out while you are still underwater you won't be able to re-cast the spell while underwater, but you can still drink another Potion to renew it in that situation. Alternatively, while a bit more difficult to obtain, an item with permanent Water Breathing will prevent you from having to recast the spell at all.
    • Similarly, using a Scroll or Wand is generally an inferior solution to a Potion or item, as neither can be activated underwater if the initial effect runs out.
    • If you are playing as a Warforged or that has some method of becoming Undead (Pale Master Wizard or Dark Apostate), you can safely disregard this spell entirely, as Constructs and Undead do not need to breathe.
